No one thinks that Lefeld was refering to the fact that his coach got thrown out with a quarter of the game to go?

or that the coach was not doing a good job?

As I said in another thread...

Total Fouls 35-20
Total Foul Shots 42-17

I'd be pissed if he hadn't got thrown out!

We lost to a team from the Southern Conference. That is pathetic.

Sometimes I wonder, I mean really wonder at times if NCAA officalls have it out for BG mens basketball or maybe Dan Dakich himself. It probably can't be true but when I hear of Samarco getting a T after making his 3 shot for celebration, come on give me a break!! We get all of the weirdest calls at the oddest of times , like when we're are making or trying to make a comeback. Not saying that some of the fouls arn't their fault but this is ridculous leading by huge margins in the fouls in every game just about.

I'm sure the guys need to get better with the all-around team defense so that guys are in better postion but still, our foul situation has got to be gotten under control or we're doomed in every game we play no matter how inept the other team might be.

Let's face it. They were beat by a bad team, but I'm not giving up. It was the season opener. No Wright. No Dusan (would this have hepled?). And it was the first live-game action that most of these guys had together.

Lefeld played a nice game (I'll take 14pts and 6 boards from him all year!) and really was one of the few Falcons who was not in foul trouble. If he can keep that up, we get some scoring punch from Wright and Dusan and get Smarco on track we should be OK for the MAC schedule.

Did that starting lineup bother anyone else (Floyd, Robinson, Smarco, Soler and Lefeld)? Three point guards, a small forward and a center? I bet it's different on Saturday.

And a team predicted to finish near the bottom of the Southern Conference.

I've been trying to refrain, but I can't hold it in anymore. Before we start all the "pitty us, referees suck" BS . . . I'm guessing that there are about 3 people who know why Samarco was T'd up. I'm guessing it had something to do with something he said to the person guarding him, the crowd, or something the referee heard.

We foul a lot, because we are slow and get ourselves in terrible defensive positions by going for hot-dog steals, instead of playing man-to-man defense that our system is built upon. Plain and simple. It's been the case for at least the last 2-3 years, if not more.

I'm glad that Dan did have practice after game. At least he's holding someone accountable or he saw how illogical it was to see his team get down by nearly 20 and then get thrown out. At some point, we're not a good team, yet, and it's not the referees' fault everytime we get beat.

We can rule the crowd out...Todd Walker said there were 81 people at the game.

If someone can find team called for more fouls per game than us in Div1AA basketball great, but still have my doubts. This same scenerio keeps happening no matter what kind of players we have. If its the scheme than the scheme needs to be tweeked so players are not left out to dry defensivly which might lead to more fouls.

We had this same problem this last year with 4 seniors albeit not very athletic ones. I'm just saying we got to figure out our foul problems and get em fixed. We are surely going to get spanked by Va Tech tomorrow. I believe they beat Duke earlier this year.

Box score on bgsufalcons.com shows 9,847 in attendance. I'm assuming that was for the Va. Tech game.

Toledo Blade said that Samarco was teed up because of excess celebration after he hit the 3 pointer. I think this is ridiculous to get teed up for celebrating a shot that close the game within 2 after being down by 18. With that said, we still lost to a really bad team, I had no idea there was a Western Carolina, just an East Carolina.

I took this to mean they need a point guard. No leadership at this point. John Floyd is not the answer.
Given that Floyd and Moon were both in the starting line-up, looks like Floyd is spending more time at shooting guard. And the fact that he had zero assists and hoisted up 13 shots bears this out.

If Floyd has to play SG, I am lowering my estimate for number of wins this year from 10 to 6.

Sadly I think I'd rather have him at 2 guard where maybe he won't have the ball in his hands so often. Although him shooting 13 shots is bad as well.

We've got John Floyd playing SG and Patrick Phillips playing period...not a recipe for a lot of success in D1.

Ahem.

Guys, when assessing our viability with Floyd at 2G, could we PLEASE try to remember that Wright and Moten will be joining the team in a matter of weeks? Furthermore, Dusan will consume minutes at the 3, thereby relieving us of the need to play Samarco out of position at SF.

Floyd at 2G represents a makeshift, temporary move to accomodate our injury/eligibility situation.

8 or 9 years into the program, we shouldn't have to rely on recruiting as many guys as we had to this year, let alone having two of them turn out to be ineligible. So I have very little patience and/or compassion about "makeshift" line-ups with Floyd at 2G. Apparently, we need to spend more time finding the NCAA Clearinghouse Handbook and less time blaming officiating.
