Coach made some comment on the post game show or in the paper that went like "we play physical, they played physical, that's how the game is played today."

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basket ... score.html

I couldn't get the live feed at home so I don't have comments on the game itself, just observations from the boxscore and rumblings from you all.

*I will say this . . . At least Dakich is consistent with his rigidness in regards to being prompt. I'm personally all for team rules. As of yet, I have not heard from anyone or any of you what Martin was late for, but let's give Coach the benefit of the doubt in this case. Hopefully Samarco learns his lesson and this does not become a "Raheem Moss"-like epidemic.

*It's hard to overcome any type of lead when 3 guys foul out. Moon, Mawi and Marschall here. As mentioned earlier, Marschall has finished one game on the season. Part of that is experience, part is being undersized, part is horrible perimeter defense. All of that being said, I like what Marschall brings, he needs to find where the Mac East dining hall is though. Although one of Mawi's was due to a technical, so its good to see the "wrestler" in him coming back as well.

*Five combined turnovers from Moon and Floyd. I didn't listen, I won't comment.

*After being a somewhat go-to guy in Virginia and playing a truckload of minutes, Darryl Clements has almost fell off of the radar screen with only 6 minutes of action here. Not one of the prettier jumpshots you'll see, but he is rangy, long and athletic and we need all of the athletes we can get at this point.

*A seemingly inspired effort from Lefeld with 17 big points. Nice to see someone step up in Samarco's absence. That being said, I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, you cannot simply say well Samarco averages 16, so add that to our total and we win. God knows if Martin plays, then others do not get the shots that were taken and I'm sorry I haven't seen enough from him yet, to show me he's an 8 pt. differential player. Although we had only one guy in double figures, it appears that we played more of a "team" game without him and I doubt the result would have been much different with him, although its a completely different dynamic. We are certainly more athletic with him, but we don't share as much. Not a criticism, just an observation. With Samarco, Wright and Moten all playing on Saturday, and all 3 bringing "offensive" mindsets, our possessions will be "interesting" to say the least.

*Where is Nick Wilson? After advertising him as a super-athlete that could "dunk it with his elbow," (Dan's comment, not mine) you have to wonder if we're attempting a redshirt or what is going on there. Again, we need all the athletes we can get, but Brian Moten makes his long anticipated debut Saturday so it shall be interesting to see what he can offer.

Actually had two guys in double figures, Marschall had 10. You know, just to pick some nits.

And I read (either here or on the official site's recap) that Samarco was late for the team bus.

Wilson has played, so it can't be a redshirt.

But isn't basketball set up on a percentage basis for redshirts? I know guys have played and become injured in the first 5-10 games and been granted "medical hardship" redshirts, but I thought it was the same for a regular redshirt, although I may be wrong.

TG- Thanks for the correction on Marschall!

........can't we just report it as violation of an unspecified team rule and make him run till he can no longer breathe?

Option, I think football and basketball both use a percentage basis for medical redshirts, but I think that if he isn't injured than his redshirt is gone.

If I am wrong, I am ready to stand corrected.

I think if he was late for the bus, DD would have left town without him. He overslept a team meeting.

It always seems like basketball redshirts are easier to come by for medical reasons, though maybe it's just because there are more games, so the percentage lets you play more before you lose the year.

A. Stacey played in 5 of 26 games his junior year, but got the redshirt, it seems like if a football player played in the same 25 or so percent of games (almost 3 games) he'd have to have a VERY strong case to get the year back.

Just on a historical note, without the five games he played in 97-98, he'd be the second all-time scorer, having had his mark broken by Keith McLeod. Both would be slightly ahead of Howard Komives, who only played three years because freshmen were ineligible. Dude averaged almost 26 a game! Give him another "average" season, and he's pushing 2,500 pts. for his career. (And that's WITHOUT a hippie panda tat on his calf! )

At least BG hung tough in this one. I didn't get a chance to listen to the game.

Hopefully things will start jelling soon....GO BG!~

Throw in the three point line and Butch would have averaged even more. His numbers are mind boggling when you put them in context.

I'm told Wilson can still be redshirted and will be if Moten is eligible. DD has said before if a player is ready they will play. I don't think Wilson adds much other than another body. Maybe next year.
