Re: A Big Comeback vs. Ball State

Yes that game should have made my list. It was against Ball State. We were down 9 with :45 on the clock. Although Komives had the heroics it was Matt Otto who came in and tied the game up and I thought that put it into overtime. Then it was Komives who turned it on in OT? I could be wrong though.

Me and the future Mrs. Rollo crammed into the student section and watched the Falcons choke one off, 59-56. The Ohio band made the trip but had no room to sit in the sold out AA. They stood instead in the corner of the walled end line and played as students threw things at them.

After this tough loss that kept us from an NCAA bid, the team accepts a bid to the NIT. Me and some of the other dorm rats made the trip to East Lansing and sat in Jenison Fieldhouse and watched the Falcons lose again. They controlled the game all the way agaoinst Michigan State. Keith "K-Nice" Taylor misses the back end of a one-and-one that could have sealed the game. Spartans come down and Kevin EWillis hits a turnaround baseline jumper from about 15 feet as time expires to tie the game. Scott Skiles takes over in overtime and we lose 72-71.

One of the most depressing ending to a great season I can remember. Maybe the Stacy-lead team in 99-00 might have come close with the loss to Miami and Krunkenmeyer in the first round of the MAC tourney?
That was my worst moment as well. That stupid band and their Dr. Smith Lost In Space look-a-like director was a complete a$$. They did not have tickets to a sold out game and some OU moron let them in the doors at the end of the gym and then our own BG people had all of the fans in the GA section squeeze together so these idiots could play everytime our band played. And then after we lost I can still see one of the OU players sitting on the rim of the north goal after he climbed up there after the game. ARGH!!!

Also, I think the same season against Akron, last game of the year, AD's last home game, Jay L's last home game and Jay put on a shooting display and scored around 40. That game may have also clinched the regular season MAC Championship, which of course got us nothing, but still a great day. Those are two of my favorites memories.
BGSU33 mentioned that last night at 10:30. where you been.
Sorry, totally missed 33's post. Must have gone right past it.

1. Brandon Pardon falling at half court, losing the ball against Ball St.
2. Ball St. pre-game...Ball St. Cardinal gets out his little Razor scooter and rides around Anderson. That is, until Freddie runs full court and clotheslines him off the scooter.

Most have been mentioned.

Dave Jamerson's 40+ pts against BG a while back was impressive. He wouldn't miss, and I was right underneath (not literally) the basket to see it.

Strangely enough, not many games come to mind, but several people do.

I recall Weinert and his "lucky jacket" that we were all cursed with through one winning streak.

I recall Larranaga talking about Grant Long in a post-game "I hope we see him in the NBA next year."

In women's hoops, I remember watching Jackie Motycka early in her career and being awed by how much better she was than just about everyone else.

I recall seeing JoLynn Williamson play for BG's volleyball team as a freshman and being stunned at how hard she hit the ball. You could close your eyes and hear the difference between her and the other players ... Boom (Deb Hopkins) ... Boom (Lisa Berardinelli) ... Boom (Becky Snider) ... BOOOOOM! (JoLynn)

I always enjoyed talking to Coach Van De Walle after games. She stare so hard at the post-game stats that I always figured she had some secret code she was deciphering.

Two Toledo Games -- One in AA, one in Old Men's Gym

Feb. 1968 -- St. Valentine's Massacre of Toledo. BG-led Bill Fitch and the Falcons gaining steam toward a MAC title and our LAST Big Dance. Blade columnist Tom Loomis had the guts to write that Toledo was the better team. It wasn't close. Tom, RIP.

In 1958 -59 season I think, watching Jimmy Darrow score 52 points against Toledo. Watching that game in Men's Gym made me a Falcon fan for life at the age of 9. (He did it again against Marshall, I think).

Darrow had a hell of a six week stretch in early 1960...

My favorite moment was last year at the men's game against Miami (I do believe). We broke the backboard during warmups and had it replaced before the game could start. I was in the Athletic Band and I remember we played through all of our songs while they were doing the repairs. It was awesome to watch, although slightly scary since the band had to move so we wouldn't get killed by the poles and equipment used. I'd never heard of a backboard breaking, so I was amazed and it definitely stands out in my mind.
I would also agree that last year's win over Toledo was one of the best...it was down to the wire and anytime we beat UT it's a good thing.

Additional worst moment:
Dakich's first year at BG...Game v. Akron..........that fat little b*tch Bosley (sp?)....
I remember the bench was seriously depleted, especially after Cowen was knocked out of the game with a knee injury, and a number of players were fouled out in the last several minutes. With something like 50 seconds to play, we were down 8 (I think), and on top of that we could only floor 4 players, one of them Keys, who hit some key free throws.
We came back and took the lead on foul shots (Keys) with something like 3 seconds left. Akron inbounds the ball to Bosley, who runs it to just past center half court, puts up a prayer, which goes in at the buzzer. That asshole then procedes to rip off his jersey, scream sh*t at the crowd, and finally, to top it off, runs through Cowen's propped up leg on BG's bench.
Could have been one of the best moments had those final 3 seconds not been played.
One of the best memories...more in regards to the crowd than the play on the floor.
The Akron game a few years ago when Andy Hipsher threw the ball into the face of one of the Sideline Squaders after the guy screamed something into Hipsher's face. The guy got ejected, but the crowd never let up on Hipsher, and he ended the game with almost no points. We really got to him, and he handled it as poorly as I've ever seen.

Also, a couple years ago against NIU, the ref made me apologize to a Huskie player because I called him an "idiot". You may not believe me, but my buddy and I are still stunned over the ordeal...it was surreal. It felt like the game was on hold for my "apology". Hilarious.
