I like the idea of putting it in Steve's hands. He has the leadership and the most experience on the team...
Agreed.

Depending on the defense, I don't think you could have gone wrong with Wright, Samarco or even going down to Lefeld to try to pick up a foul on that play.

35 seconds in first half and 13 seconds on shot clock!!!!!!

Post by Red Wing Fan »

I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by those two situations tonight. NOTHING makes me crazier than that going for the last shot at half time!!!! Have we EVER made it????????? If so, rarely!!!!!
As for that time out with 13 seconds yet. My exact thoughts were - a full time out and THAT'S the best you can come up with!!!!!!!! :?: We had the momentum going, the fans making noise, the other team rattled - and the time out helped them more than us.
Why don't we use the players on the bench more? Moton looked good the last home game - why didn't he ever make it off the bench????? The starters get so worn out by the end of the game they have nothing left to give!!!!!! So what happens now?? Do the guys get practiced really hard because they lost and have nothing left to give on Sunday????? I certainly hope not, because I can't take being beaten by Toledo _ That's just too much!!!!!

THERE - I'VE VENTED. I feel better now.
Has anyone ever gotten close enough to that Rocket guy that comes with Toledo to notice how bad he smells? I happened to pass him last year and it wasn't a very pleasant experience. Maybe he'll have a new suit this year.

We don't have any room to comment on the stench of other mascots. Have either of our birds rub up against you and you will know the meaning of stank. Those fowl are foul....*rimshot*

Thoughts on game

Post by CrazyFan »

First of all, I would like to start off by saying I think last night was one of the better officiated MAC games that I've seen in a LONG time. Hopefully that trend continues. BG played a great first half, but defensively couldn't put NIU to bed. We should of been up 15-20 points at the half, but we gave Reichel and Peterson some WIDE open 3's that kept them in the game. Our turnovers, especially the one with under 30 seconds to go in the half, didn't help our cause any.

Then we came out in the second half and just looked flat. It seemed like NIU was playing with a lot more energy, hustling a lot more. We still had our energy and hustle (we'll always have that with Dakich as the coach), but we didn't seem to be moving as well on offense. I can't count the number of times we were just standing around on offense and Floyd had to yell at people to move.

I think the demise of the game came down to two things 1) Our inability to rebound (which was a major concern voiced by members hear at the beginning of the year), which NIU came up with a couple BIG tip ins at key points in the game, especially the one that won the game and 2) Offense being stalled in the second half. How many times did we let the shot clock run down and then heave up a crap shot? I can count atleast 5 times.

But, with all that said, I think we should be ok this season. They sure do play hard with a lot of emotion and can play great defense when they want to (and we don't get burned by 6'8 white stiffs that gun 3 pointers). I think by seasons end we should be close to .500 in the MAC.

Beat the Rockets and help usher Joplin to the door!

Lefeld was amazing! A healthy Matt Lefeld makes us a top MAC team!! As long as the guards can get him the ball.

And to your comment about the wall... yeah, it looks sweet!!

Many people in the section I sit in had not noticed it yet. I find that amazing! Something that looks so great is being missed by many!

This picture of Floyd in the Toledo Blade online today sums up the thread "Heartbreaker" the best. The look on his face with NIU celebrating stings. But games like last night show why sometimes in game every possession, shot, free throw, rebound, turnover, fouls, etc., can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Not 100% sure. Unis look like Western maybe?? On the floor for BG, McLeod (shooting), Pardon (behind Keith), Esterkamp (above the arc), Stacey, and Matela... what a KILLER lineup. It's a GREAT picture! I have no idea who took it though.

I think that picture is from my favorite game ever at Anderson Arena - Kent in 2000. Stacey broke the scoring record and Esterkamp got his 1,000th point. Looking at the schedule, we didn't play Western at home that year.
