Shame on Dakich for following this lame-ass "if you don't do things my way you sit" course of action.
Since when is any team sport a democracy where the players get to do any damn thing they please? Give me a break! If you produce, you play. If you don't, you sit. It's as plain as that. Dakich is the coach, what he says is law as it should be.
My guess is, you wouldn't last long under any system that demands discipline and compliance. You're too used to getting your own way. Try joining the military....it'll probably do you some good if you can make it through basic training.

Yeah, when he was here we all rallied together in defense of our teams, players, and our university. Without him, we inevitably debate each other. Not that that's bad or anything, seeing as this is a college sports forum, but its interesting how that works.
On this particular issue, if Samarco was injured, fine. If he was in foul trouble, fine. But if not, get him in the damn game! Shame on Dakich for following this lame-ass "if you don't do things my way you sit" course of action. No wonder so many players leave BG with that crap going on. The bottom line is, you don't take your best player out with the outcome of the game still in doubt. It's stuff like this that really peeves me, and quite frankly, I want Dakich gone. Stick a fork in DD, the game has passed him by.
How long have you followed BGSU basketball bgsufalcon24? Seems like this is your first year of following them the way your absolutely blasting Dakich. Are you a new student at BGSU who's only seen 1 year of the basketball program? Have you played sports on a team before? Just questions to help me better understand where your coming from on your views. No malice intended.
It's obviously OK to bench a ANY player guy for slacking on defense. Every coach does things like that. Samarco left in the 2nd half due to injury, causing the misperception that he was benched for a inordinately long time. Furthermore, Samarco was off like we've never seen.
I do agree, however, that a big part of DD's style is mindgames and intimidation. Too much so, imho. Starting Phillips is a classic example. Furthermore, he's one of the most stubborn, hard-headed, and inflexible guys I've ever seen. Frankly, knowing myself, if I were a MAC basketball prospect in HS, there a several MAC coaches that I'd rather play for.
For me, it comes down to this: when looking at recent years' record, the succession of transfers, and the current state and progress of our team, the trend looks bad. It's difficult to believe that the program is doing anything other than treading water or going downhill. We'll go 12-18 this year, most likely. I see nothing to give me hope that we'll be any better at all next year and especially the year after. When viewing the current team in the context of the last 4 years, I'm pessimistic about our future.
Yet, strangely, I just can NOT bring myself to say that I would want him out. He runs a clean program and graduates the players that stay. His guys play heard. He's seems to be more human and likable than the bulk of us. Furthermore, someone suggested that we be careful what we wish for. How hard would it be to hire a Milton Barnes or Jay Eck and REALLY suffer for five years? It's easy to forget that DD's entire D1 track record, on balance, is solid.
And another thing....BGSU is not the best situation in the world for a D1 coach. AA is an embaressing, diminutive facility. The university is located in a boring, hickish town, and there's a general lack of support from the community.

To an outsider? Maybe.
But if someone comes in (as DD was VERY close to doing in 2000 and 2002) and takes the team to the dance, which in turn brings the support, they'll have their run of this "boring, hickish town", and not only that, but the "embarrassing" Anderson Arena would again be called one of the great places for college basketball atmosphere.

These are excellent points when weighing Dakich's merit. Overall, it seems he's done a lot with a little. I still don't like his philosophies, but I like the man overall. I'm with the crowd that isn't rushing to kick him out the door, but is also not quite ready to extend his contract.
Of course it doesn't matter what any of us think, unless Paul Krebs or some high powered alumni are posting to this thread, which I find highly unlikely.

Not at all BleedingOrange, not at all. As an incoming freshman this year, I figured we'd have a good football team this year, but our men's basketball and hockey teams were in a rebuilding mode. That's why I was so mad about our football team's struggles, because I thought we wouldn't have anything to root for the rest of the year. I had no idea how good our women's basketball team was going to be, and they've been a pleasant surprise to me, and maybe that's why I've been so rabid in supporting them all year long. I definently think elite eight is possible, and hopefully some of the top seeds will get upset early (not likely, but still) so we have a shot at the national championship. Hey, ya gotta dream B!G.
Nevermind. You answered my question bgsufalcon24. I just have a hard time understanding how you can be so critical of Dakich when this is your first year at BGSU and you have no idea what else he's done in his 8 years at BGSU.
