It's one thing to call one of us name, but to call a coach that gives his all to the university a loser, that crosses the line of stupidity. If you think that you are the lifeblood of the university, then you are sadly mistaken. You are only one of thousands of kids that attend BG, and I'm sure most of them wouldn't come on here and call coach a loser. The lifeblood of the university are the kids that are active on campus and do things that are productive. The lifeblood of the university are the kids that support their university, and don't get into namecalling of employees that have worked and given much more than you to the university. The lifeblood of the university is not you sir, the lifeblood of the university may be from the 18-22 yr. old individual, but the schmucks of the bunch are not the LIFEBLOOD of the university. I'm sure that there are a lot of people on this board that gave way much more time to the university than you do, and that is the lifeblood of the university. You give me a list of your accomplishments so far, and I will tell you if you qualify as part of that group. I respect that you aren't happy with the way the program is going right now. I remember being unhappy with the way the football team was playing, and unhappy with Coach Blackney with the performance. But I did not call him names, and I was at every game while I was there. That is the lifeblood. People that bleed orange and brown and love the school and programs, good or bad, that is the lifeblood.
I am absolutely in shock. I say one thing about coach Dakich, and everybody goes crazy. I'm beginning to agree with clevelandfalcon, this site is a no-criticism zone. The minute you say something negative about anybody, you got 3 people coming after you. Are there people at BG who have given more to this university than I have, sure there are. But for you to come out and differentiate people inside the student body of Bowling Green who are man enough to speak their mind about our athletic programs and the individuals that make them up, as schmucks, that does it. I am absolutely sick of the treatment that I have recieved on this site simply because I am calling a spade a spade when I say that the basketball team stinks and coach Dakich is doing a terrible job. You honestly don't think that people in the BG student body would say disrespectful things about faculty, staff, the people who run this university and our athletic teams? Get a clue pal, that happens every day, every hour of every day. Because I am one that is saying this, am I less of a fan even though I went to almost all the hockey and football games, and most of the women's B-ball games this season? No. I love how I have to think that everybody is great and that everything is all fine and dandy to get any type of respect on here. Whatever happened to critical thinking/evaluation? (BTW, that was the first class I took here at BG fall semester, so don't get me started)

By the way, did I EVER say that I was the lifeblood of BG?!! Not even close, so shut your trap. When I made that statement I was referring to the 4,653 students who came into BG fall semester, and for you to misconstrue this statement into a gain for your own little argument is nothing but a blatant ambiguity.
You need to learn some manners, son.

I realize that you are young, but you need to realize that there are many, many more who have come before you and experienced the same things that you are experiencing. For you to sit here and say that people calling faculty and staff members names is "reality" and that we should just accpet it is beyond your common offense.

Bottom line - the world does not revolve around you, and you have no idea what reality is. Yet. I am confident, based on my experience at BGSU, that the education you will recieve over the next few years will teach you what reality is, but until that time, don't go insulting others who think you are out of line simply because you are unwilling to review and question your own actions.

And yes, I have come after you once before. I explained to you why, and I did so in a constructive manner. It is clear, though, that you simply don't give a sh!t what other people think about your opinion right now, because your candor has not only not improved, but in many ways grown more egregious.

It is fine that you are disappointed with this season. Newsflash: SO IS EVERYONE ELSE, even the people that are trying to be "positive." There is no denying that. Your problem is that you make no effort whatsoever to make constructive criticisms. You want to talk about ambiguities? Every statement you have made in the past two days has been filled with ambiguous rage. Why are you angry? Is it the transfers? Is it the fact that we can't win close games? Is it the mysterious bald spot on Coach D's head? Is it all of the above? No one knows, because your comments have largely been restricted to simply saying that you are angry, and have devolved into calling the coach a loser.

You commented a couple of days ago that you felt as though people were trying to drive you away from this board. If you continue to show that you are unwilling to change your attitude and show a complete lack of respect for anyone or anything besides your own opinion, perhaps your paranoia isn't completely unfounded...
I have read every word in this post, and I'm not sure how to go about responding. In the spirit of the family aspect of this forum, here goes. My reasons for why the BG men's basketball program is in shambles...

1.Transfers - This is the biggest problem. We bring in these kids that can help us, but we have a coach that either cannot or will not effectively coach them. This leads to bad blood between player and coach, seen most notably with Stephen Wright. Another reason for transfers is probably the decrepit state of Anderson Arena. Playing in AA cannot be a good selling point for potential recruits. The athletic facilities in general are a big minus in terms of recruiting pitches, and that hurts us in trying to get players to come here. What is especially bad is that we have schools in the MAC East division touting 10,000-seat arenas, like Ohio. That gives the Bobcats a huge advantage over us in the recruiting battle, and will likely result in them being consistently better than us. You see this in professional sports all the time, the teams that have the nice stadiums are often the ones that score the big name free agents and are consistently better as a result.

2.Dakich kills the spirit of the players - This is purely speculation, but given the amount of transfers out of here, and given the bad blood surfacing between Stephen Wright and Dakich, I am willing to guess that most BG players don't have much fun on the basketball court. It would seem to me that Dakich's coaching style is such that he breaks these kids mentally and destroys their spirit to play. Now obviously this is a hypothesis, but given the recent events in this program, I wouldn't doubt it, and I have reason to suspect it.

3.Coaching, especially late in games - I am not in the huddle by the bench, so I do not know exactly what happens there, but a few things are certain. In the final 3-5 minutes of games, we do everything to prevent us winning the game. We turn the ball over, we don't box out, we take poor shots, we play scared. You can tell the guys on our team are all looking at each other to make a play, because nobody knows what the heck to do with the game on the line. How many games have we lost this season by 3 points or less? 6? 7? 8? And its not like I can blame the players that much, they try hard, really hard to win. The coach does not have A FREAKING CLUE what to do late in games. This is a big reason why I dislike Dakich. He has taken this bunch of players and due to his poor offensive and defensive schemes late in games, turned this team into the biggest late-game chokers in the nation this year. This annoys me to no end. Say what you want about lack of talent, I say if we are good enough to hang with a team for 36 minutes, we ought to be able to play with them for 40.

4.Coaching, not playing freshmen - This is another thing that erks me. Why aren't our young guns starting, playing lots of minutes in every game? The season is lost, and by playing upperclassmen in games you know we can't win anyway, we aren't developing our younger players. Then when they actually see significant time in their 2nd and 3rd seasons, they are way behind in their development, perhaps permanently. Best player be darned, in a season like this where it is clear you have no chance, you have to play the guys that you expect to be the heart of your team for the next 2-3 years. No buts. We have a freshman this year that could become the next great post player in the MAC, but he wasn't even playing much for much of the season. Now that Wright is gone, we should see much more of Moon and Moten, but knowing Dakich, he'll probably play Patrick Phillips instead...

This stuff is tough, and possibly even embarrasing to talk about. Which is why I can't quite understand how anybody could even attempt to put a positive spin on things. I just don't think that way, if the team I root for is 9-17, I'll be honest, I won't have many good things to say. That being said, I don't think anything I've said or done on this site is anything to get worked up about. However, since everybody is different, some will disagree with that. Fine. But I refuse to yield my opinions because somebody thinks badly of what I have to say.

24, this post is not just towards you, so don't go taking this as a personal attack. But I don't think that the word shambles is appropriate. Shambles would be if the program wasn't fixable. The problems are fixable. The program being a disapointmant right now, yes. Another term I saw on this board today was "dark days" of the program. Dark days would be getting put on NCAA probation and not being allowed to compete in MAC and NCAA tournaments. Baylor right now is in the dark days of their program. We are having a down year with a trend of recruits leaving that is disturbing. But those things can be fixed. Shambles would be if all of the players wanted to leave, and didn't believe in coach anymore. You are going to have more than one kid unhappy during a season at their playing time, or the way that you get on them. I have experienced that first hand this year. My team was in shambles at mid term. I had 5 kids not eligible because they didn't take care of their academic work. That was partly my fault for not getting on them more. But that is for another topic. And I had one kid quit because of the other kids not passing. That was shambles at the time. But you know what, we have perservered, and it has only made the kids stronger, and better players, that we have. I know what shambles is, and we are not there. Dark days is a term that I really get scared of. That means that we have done something that we haven't ever seen before at BG, and that something has been done wrong. That is what I would associate that term with when it comes to athletics.

Best wishes on a good finish.

Unfortunately, I think there are signs that exactly that is the case. There are a lot of rumors on here that certain players are going to be leaving, and I have to believe we have a lot of people here that are closer to the team/situation than we know. There are plenty of rumors going around that we will be losing multiple players. Perhaps not all of the players, but enough to make it disturbing.

What is more alarming to me is the fact that the kids play like they don't believe in the coach anymore. Towards the end of nearly every game there seem to be situations where they are just doing the exact opposite of what Dan is telling them to do. In the EMU game he was telling them over and over to stay out of the corners...every in bounds play they kept throwing it into the corners. In some of the other games when we've been down late he's been motioning and yelling for them to come up and press. Instead we get 1 or 2 guys putting pressure on in the backcourt, but it's easily beaten as somebody else wasn't paying attention and there is usually a man completely uncovered near halfcourt. Floyd has a habit of hoisting NBA range 3s with 20+ seconds on the shot clock. Every time he does coach calls him over and speaks with him...it doesn't seem to change his pattern.

I actually thinkt hat the kids believing in Dan is a lot more of the problem than Dan not knowing what he's doing. It's up to the coach to earn those kids' respect and trust, and for whatever reason he's just not doing it. It's a real shame because I was a huge Dakich fan in the past, but these past 4 years have been very painful. I'm not so sure that the program is in "shambles" just yet, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's heading that way.

Is it just me, or did this situation take a turn for the worse a couple of years ago when we didn't land the Jesus Twins. I blame them.

Speaking of the Pollitz boys, I am predicting there will be more fans from Ottawa rooting for Miami next Wednesday than there will be BG fans in AA.

God! 6 months of attending BGSU and all of a sudden 24's an expert. Im sorry but why don't you "shut your hole" 24. This is your first year at the university and you have NO IDEA what Coach Dakich has done at this university. Hell, you were 10 years old running your mouth on the playground when he started here! But you think you can come in here and start talking sh!t about the program and calling coach names. I think you are the loser 24, in fact, I know you are the loser just by your posts!

Coach Dakich has done enough to earn the respect he deserves and not have some 18,19,2 (whatever age he is) year freshman start calling him names. It's alright to think that coach might not be the right fit for BGSU anymore, but to do what 24 has done is completely crossing the line. Coach Dakich has earned the respect of the university and the community. He has 2 20 win seasons for our program and he has an overall winning percentage to just name a few reasons. And I have been here for 15 years.

If you think of Coach Dakich as a new hire after the WVU years, it looks pretty awful. His first stint here was pretty good, hence he was sought after by larger programs. However, in his second stint, he's been well below that bar.

I want to like Coach Dakich because of the great job he did when I was a student here. He does have 2 20+ win seasons, and an overall winning record. Unfortunately those stats are solely because you're counting his time before he left. Since that time it's been nothing but disappointment for us.

Hammb, that's an excellent point. I'm reading all this...let me say this:

If you dropped into Anderson Arena on Tuesday night from another planet--no history, no WVU, no Ron Lewis--and walked into the arena and watched the game, would you see a program on the right track or the wrong track?

I can't agree with those who say there isn't a problem, and yet I don't think a coaching change is the only choice.

We need to turn things around. I hope Dan is the one who does it.

OSUFalcon, thank you for the wishes. I will always follow the womens team. I was closer to that program when I was there, and that is the team that I follow the closest. It's kinda the reason that I jumped on a womens basketball opportunity. The season has been ok. The six girls that I am throwing out there every game are playing there butts off. We the last two games have been so darn close to a win that I could taste it. I really feel that we are going to get one this Saturday. I think that next week we have a winnable game early in the week, but then we play the number 2 team in the country to close out the season. That I'm afraid isn't going to be pretty. But it's been good seeing some of my Freshman that earlier in the year going really produce come up huge lately. It's really makes me excited about next year. Alot of DI coaches that are seeing us play say that they wish that they could have 6 kids that played and practiced as hard as ours. That makes me feel good right now. Thank you for the concern, and I'll update you when we get our first win with just six girls on saturday.

Oh I see, you are one of those people who believes in age discrimination. Because I am a certain age, I'm not allowed to say anything about Dakich or the basketball program. Dude, this is the United States of America, we have constitutional protection from this crap. I'm sure you're very familiar with the first amendment yes? You can't just censor somebody because you don't like what they have to say, or because they happen to be a freshman at Bowling Green. If the day comes where you ever become a moderator on this webpage, then you can pull all the stunts you want, but the way I see it, with your obvious prejudice against young people, that day is a long time coming.

By the way, nice of you to assume that I know absolutely nothing about BG Basketball or Coach Dakich. You sound like a belligerent jerk. You know what happens when you assume...
