Hobson/Wright
I know nothing about the Steven Wright situation, other than what I have read on AZZ, but I do know that the basketball was doing their summer conditioning on the practice soccer field early this afternoon, and Steven Wright was THERE with the rest of the team. I honestly no not think there is any way he would be there if he was not planning on remaining at BG for next year. I you watched just a little of the conditioning and weight training, I believe you would think the same thing. The strength coach, the athletic trainer, and DD, were all observing the workouts, and they were not for the "faint of heart"!!!!

Well it looks like he's staying...for now. Who knows next week it could change. I'm certain he's not going through conditioning for the fun of it. I bet he might be getting a little extra conditioning because I have a feeling Dakich isn't particularly pleased with being on the News/AZZ.com because of Wright and Hobson. .
Okay, hopefully without revealing too much, here is what I know about the current Wright situation.
He quit, the team didn't really want him back. The coaches did. They had
several team meetings this past week to discuss the issue. Basically, it seems that the coaches had decided to let him return and the meetings were a way of trying to smooth it out with the rest of the team.
So, yes, it looks like he's staying now.
On another note, there may be another roster casualty related to a disagreement between Dakich and a certain transfer player about said players haircut. This is still unconfirmed.

Hmmmm...our PG is leading a team that doesn't want him. That's encouraging.
Possibly losing a player because of a haircut reminds me of the "Mattingly, cut those sideburns" episode of the Simpson's. Is DD turning into C. Montgomery Burns? I don't want to speculate about who would play the role of Waylon Smithers.

Skip, I don't think you know what sideburns ARE!Flipper wrote:Hmmmm...our PG is leading a team that doesn't want him. That's encouraging.

We're talkin' Softball, from Maine to San Diego
talkin' softball, Mattingly and Canseco
Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw.
Steve Sax and his run in with the law.
We're talkin' HOOOOMMMMEEERRR....
Ozzie and the Straw.
Sad...I know...but one of my favorite episodes. Then again, I think they all are

I can't 100% confirm this, but a very good source said Soler is gone. I would be surprised if this person were wrong, but anything is possible.
Like the Wright situation, things do change though. So, who knows?
What I do know for sure is that there was a conversation where Dakich told him he would have to cut it and he basically said forget it, I'm gone. Hopefully he will reconsider if he hasn't already.
About Wright, I also feel we need him, but not the distractions. He needs to commit completely or leave. I do know about what happened when he was suspended last year, and I'm honestly surprised Dakich took him back then. I'm not sure very many coaches would have. I really hope he stays and gets it together. At the same time, if his off court issues don't change, I can't say I would be sad to see him go.

Didn't Soler notice that no one on the team has long hair? Didn't anyone say to him on a recruiting visit that he is going to have to cut it? I don't blame Dakich for this one if it is true. This is just a kid that didn't look into things enough and if he's not willing to cut his hair to play basketball, then he's not the type of kid we want at BG anyway.
I couldn't disagree more. These stupid little things are exactly why we have kids leaving the program every here. This isn't high school and it isn't the army. These kids are old enough to vote, fight for our country, and make important decisions on thier own. Telling them they can't play basketball because their hair is too long, or they have a beard, or a tatoo is riduculous.BGGrad01 wrote:Didn't Soler notice that no one on the team has long hair? One more comment. Am I the only one who sees huge differences in Dakich's approach to the Wright and Soler situations? Wright quit the team for crying out loud. Yet he begs him to come back. That shows me he isn't willing to let anything come between him and putting the best team out on the floor. Yet, Soler simply wants to let his hair grow, but the coach won't let him play. That seems to be completely opposite of what he did with Wright. Why don't you ask the rest of the team who they would rather have as a teammate: the guy who quit or the guy with long hair. Bet I know who they would rather have.
