The BGSU students love to go to the bars! Maybe we should get the bars to post game times.Ryan Autullo wrote:You can argue that his timing was bad, but Gregg Brandon was spot on when he said the student body at BG is apathetic about Falcon athletics. It hurts, but it's the truth.
Students?
Here's a shot in the dark. Instead of selling beer at the games (like they did at Buffalo), 2 for $1 jello shots for the ladies, watch the crowds pour in!OSUFALCON wrote:The BGSU students love to go to the bars! The Men's games are horrendously boring. Our sporting events in general are boring. With the exception of the women, even when our teams win, it is usually boring to be there watching. I enjoyed listening to the hockey team last Friday night on the radio more than I have enjoyed just about any other home sporting event this year.
The students who do come are either die hard sports fans/falcon fans who get over being bored by poor product, girlfriends/boyfriends of the athletes, or other athletes there to support their peers.
Aside from women's basketball (and that is solely because they take matters into their own hands and WIN), our entire system does nothing to make any sporting event worth going to. Unless she is playing in band, I would have to tie my girlfriend up and drag her to a men's hoops or hockey game just to get her to go. That wouldn't even do any good because she would make me feel bad the entire time about having to be there with nothing to do.
And if you think there is something to do at these games, you're wrong. You can say stand up and cheer, but for what? Most people don't have the conviction to cheer for almost a decades worth of crap.

Yeah right girl!

It's a different generation that some just don't understand. I'm learning that really quick being in front of a classroom. These kids have grown up in a world where information was at their fingertips when they needed it. If no one tells them there is a game, or even goes to pick them up for it, chances are you won't see them there. Things they have to go look for to find aren't of any interest to them. Aka looking for schedules.TG1996 wrote:I feel like the old man telling his "walking uphill in the snow" story, but man are students today pansies or WHAT??
They have the giant signs on the outside of the building. There are FREE schedule cards and posters available at every game. There's a FREE campus newspaper available in six locations in every building. Computers are everywhere, including in a large percentage of the student population's pockets. It's a two-way street and I think the university has done tons to let people know what's going on.
Yeah they walk past them on the arena, but their heads are down reading texts. The BG News? Come on...you really think students read everything in the newspaper these days? Why do you think most newspapers are moving to the web? Regardless of having information on the internet though, it's not where the students get it. They don't want to have to go to BGSUFalcons.com, they want it in front of them while elsewhere. Emails or facebook messages would be the best bet right now.
Technology created a pretty lazy generation. People 35 and up aren't going to understand it and complain like their parents did about them. The people 21-34 are in the middle and have some of both sides. People below that just have a completely different lifestyle. I can't fathom employers trying to hire any of the ones below 21. I'm sure a lot of them will be texting or twittering during their interviews.
Try teaching someone something, giving them screen shots of what they are supposed to do step-by-step, and then having them ask you how to do it because they are too lazy to read. That's when it hit me some of these kids are lazy.

And it seems like the ath. department has been hitting Facebook pretty hard. I hate it every time I get an RSVP note for a home game and have to check "no".

A lot of the "kids" I work with are always trying to text and never do any work...it's quite irritating...Metz wrote:I can't fathom employers trying to hire any of the ones below 21. I'm sure a lot of them will be texting or twittering during their interviews.
but in any case...everyone's right...it's a mix of the whole generation issue that metzger's talking about as well as the product on the court (or ice, or field), and maybe just maybe the advertising could be an issue even though they do enough (from what I see as a student) as it is.
Basically it gets down to the fact that if the sport isn't producing, people are lazy enough that it won't be worth it to look up when the next game is and go to it because they'll just expect seeing another crappy loss to a no-named team.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Even a month from now, "35" still doesn't rhyme with "nifty".Falcon Fanatic wrote:TG1996 wrote:I feel like the old man telling his "walking uphill in the snow" story, but man are students today pansies or WHAT??TG1996 wrote:Hey, I'm still 34, dick.Metz wrote:People 35 and up aren't going to understand it and complain like their parents did about them.![]()
