Two weeks ago after we barely snuck by Toledo and Eastern Michigan, I wrote the following:

"I should point out though, that we had to go down to the wire to beat two of the worst teams in Division I the last two games. While W's are W's no matter if you win by 1 or 50, I do wonder if we'll be able to keep it up against better opposition coming down the stretch."

That was the wonder, and right now, the answer is clearly no. At this point, with Kent State still to play at home, and Miami and Ohio away, just finishing above .500 in MAC play could end up being a chore. We made our run against a bunch of awful teams, teams like Toledo, EMU, and NIU, all of whom are in the 300s of the RPI. We only really have 1 good win this entire season, and that was at home against Miami. We have 1 win against RPI top 150 teams, and NONE against the RPI top 100. Our record is 11-14. Bottom line is, some people here just got WAY too high on our team when we were 6-2 in conference play. We were always going to crash back to earth, the only question now is whether the ship can be righted or if we crash straight to the ground and not win a game the rest of the season.

For one, I think this is a sound, hardheaded assessment of where we are.

Our fundamental weakness has been and continues to be at the guard spots. We will not be consistently good until this is righted. Crawford and Kraus are young and maturing, and we'll have Clarke and Henderson next year. For this, there's no substitute for time.

Not for nothing, but if some people were way too high on our team when they were playing well, isn't it possible that some people are way too negative about them when they aren't?

Well of course. It's always the nature of things to exaggerate the situation to make it seem even better or even worse than it really is. You can go back to a lot of the posts on this board from late November and December as proof of that.

Am I doing that here? Well, maybe to suggest losing out is overdoing it, but the point is that we have some tough games remaining, and that I can't point to any games left and say "oh yeah, that's a win for sure."

looking at the schedules both BG and Akron have to each play Miami and Kent. If both BG and Akron win out (and yes that means us winning all 4 games, games at OU and MU) but if Akron and BG both win out we could easily have a 4 way tie for first, especially since Kent and MU already faced each other twice already. Being optimistic but anything is possible? Right???
