We were sitting there watching the game today, some time during the first ten minutes and the people ahead of me said, "look at that!" There were a group of 50-60 students sitting in the section directly across from the opposing bench, as they have been doing all year, and the local "crowd nazis" came down and made them move to the section next to the wall (band). Now, if there was a crowd, I might understand, but..........there were FIVE (5) people sitting in that whole section, other than the students, and probably not much more than 1000 people actually in attendance at the game.
WHY does this athletic department just keep trying to alienate people, and especially students, that are actually attending the games. I have another great concession story too, but I'll just pass on that for now

Re: Attention AD! "what does this tell you about the BB prog
I buy season tickets to football and basketball along with attending various other events (women's bball, hockey and even a volleyball game this year). I'm hooked on the games but I wish the athletic department worked at making these contests into events. They have done the lip-service this idea but what they do during a normal sparsely attended game is pitiful.
Outside the introduction videos, the Taco Bell shooting contest and the bookstore book balancing contest what is the promotions department doing to bring excitement to the arena (and these are only minor bumps in excitement). The band, the dance team and cheerleaders try but get little to no support. The video board is being used as an expensive scoreboard that has video capability. Many times I feel like we are re-enacting a scene from the movie Bull Durham when the Bulls are in the middle of a long losing streak.
Many of the problems on the court can be directed at coaching but the atmosphere MUST be directed at the athletic department. From sport to sport, from year to year no consisten effort to build the atmosphere have been maintained. I feel as though they have given up. I'm sorry but you are not promoting athletics you are promoting an event and that is where the athletic department has failed.
AND HOW DOES THE ENVIRONMENT AFFECT RECRUITING? AND HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE PRODUCT ON THE FLOOR?

1. The Stroh Center does not seat 5,000, it's 4,700.
2. Ohio basketball has not been dominant. They have won four MAC championships in the last 27 years. Ohio is averaging 6,100 at home games this year. Over the past decade their home attendance has been about 5,500, not the huge numbers people talk about.
3. My biggest concern about BG home attendance is that it is about the same as the last few seasons at Anderson. There was a little bump last year, but we are back in the 1,500-1,600 range. Unfortunately, women's BB is trending in the same direction. I thought the new arena would make a substantial difference in attendance, but that hasn't happened.

I would rather watch a good team in a crappy arena than watch a bad team in a nice arena.MacGuy wrote:1. The Stroh Center does not seat 5,000, it's 4,700.

Well when your games have scores similar to girls high school, your not going to get gain any extra fans.

I was at the SAmford game and there were about 400-500 people there. I don't think the paper reflects the correct amount.
