I honestly can't believe that we lost in the first round at home two years in a row and he is still coaching. What would he have to do to not still be coaching?

I think if the athletic department would just ask for it, the alums and donors would easily cover the costs. Its not like Greg doesn't have experience doing this very thing at Purdue in the John Purdue Club where they openly passed the hat at local area chapter meetings to buy out coaches.
Christopher was handed a cheque for the amount needed to buy out Scott Paluch a couple years ago. He gave the cheque back.

Maybe some of the worst basketball I have seen in my 14 years at the MAC tournament. Miami just got to 40 points with 1 minute left.

I sent an e-mail to Mazey and copied it to the assistant director of the Falcon Club and to a director of alumni giving. I flat out told them there would be no donations for 2013 and 2014 if Orr is retained.

It is my sincere hope that there are hundreds of people just like me who do the same.

Maybe someone will get the message.

I am still baffled by this entire situation. Something is completely awful, easily fixable, its the industry standard to fix it, it makes logical financial sense to fix it, if you don't fix it, you lose even more money over the long run, your wasting 4 scholarships and the momentum of a new arena but you don't pull the trigger?

When Rollo cited the news articles about the faculty cuts I think he was spot on. The faculty went into conniption fits when Clawson received his extension, threw tantrums when Mazey announced renovations of academic buildings, and started crying incessantly when raises were handed out last summer and the faculty hadn't been able to negotiate a new contract. If Orr were released and we agreed to pay out the remainder of his contract, the faculty union would start burning down campus. Mazey cannot put herself and her staff behind the 8-ball like that in contract negotiations. Is this the best choice for the basketball team? No. However, this is the correct choice politically when it comes to the University as a whole.

Frustrating, but the University needs to run its business. I agree that the current environment is probably behind the decisoin to not buy him out.

People who donate can make their own decisions about whether to give or not. However, when booster donors start having a say in how the athletic programs are run -- that is how problems begin.

They should not be taking gifts from alumni to buy out coaches, it's the wrong way to do business for a college.
