1.5 million in coaching salaries alone. Travel was budgeted for the department at 2.8 million for 2020. We all know the biggest percentage of that is for Football, including putting the team in a hotel on a Monday night for a Tuesday night home game. If enrollment drops they are going to need that 13.335 million in general fees somehow. Look out future students.

Agree on the fact that Title IX forces us to support several women’s teams that would be eliminated easily to save money.
BGSU football doesn’t break even and doesn’t come close to existing without student fees. Many of the sponsorships are used to help meet ticket requirements and bring little actual profit to the department. None of our “revenue sports” break even. Which makes it especially tough because we have an one extra compared to most of the MAC.

Division 2 or bust...we can have epic rivalries with Wayne State and Grand Valley. Or we can go to DIII and battle Adrian and Mount Union

And if you do it correctly at the 2 or 3 level - lose as much or more money

Define "do it correctly" and demonstrate how we could possibly loses as much or more money.

According to this article from 2016...Michigan MAC schools are the only schools drowning in red ink.

Maybe an exaggeration but to compete with Mount Union in the OAC (div3) you need to bring in 50+ athletes per year, recruit transfers from higher divisions and offer “academic” and “need” scholarships and benefits without any income opportunities. Ticket sales are light to none and TV and payday games are nonexistent. It appears most d3 OAC simply offer football with no opportunity to win the conference. Do it right to me implies having a chance to win a conference title. Honest numbers to win are impossible to find
