At Miami
Re: At Miami
What a damn win. God I love BG basketball again
Re: At Miami
Props to Miami btw. The hawks slowed the pace down and shot well, tough to beat that combo unless you rebound well and make some tough shots. They got cold just long enough to open it up for us
Re: At Miami
Congrats Falcons! Way to execute down the stretch!
Re: At Miami
The final offensive possession by BG was some brilliant coaching. Starting with that badass rebound by Agee to get another possession, he kicks it out and Simon wisely takes a timeout. Hill was able to get free, but he could see they weren't getting anything there so Simon had no fear of doubling down on the TO. Not many coaches would do that.
Then Hill gets to the rim and finishes the game.
Great execution by the coach and the best players on the team.

Excellent point I was screaming for the timeout and happy Simon was smart enough to use one. We had two left and we clearly needed a reset.
Let's show up Saturday. This team deserves it and what better way to honor Bill frack
Re: At Miami
Yep, too often coaches would sit on that just figuring the players will run what they called in the first TO. It was clear the original call didn't work, and you had them, so use one to get a good look in a huge spot.fanatic13 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:35 pmhammb wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:19 pm The final offensive possession by BG was some brilliant coaching. Bummed we've got soccer all day on Saturday, but my tickets are going to a good buddy who is a big BG fan, but not a basketball fan. Hope he & his girls see a good one!
Re: At Miami
Hung around all second half, defensive effort the final 7 or so minutes was amazing. This team and staff deserves a really good crowd on Saturday.
One other thing, has anyone checked on how Holy Cross is doing after it hired a new coach this offseason? To save you the time of looking it up.
4-13 w/ a Ken Pom rating of 352 out of 362. A hat tip to you Holy Cross for giving us hope again.

Re: At Miami
I certainly hope we have a better crowd than Miami did. 813. Yikes. Even in poor weather, it's sad to see how far their attendance has fallen since their glory days. That's hardly a home court advantage.guest44 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 9:13 am Hung around all second half, defensive effort the final 7 or so minutes was amazing. Move to 5-1 in the conference and we should have a packed house for Kent State.

I see we are #1 in the MAC in rebounding as a team. 2nd in rebounding margin.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:21 pmReal damn coaching?hammb wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:19 pm The final offensive possession by BG was some brilliant coaching. Having good/great coaching is certainly a force multiplier. Executing in these tight games is a thing of beauty.

Re: At Miami
Players ultimately decide what happens on the court, but there are certainly a number of cases and situations where coaching plays into that - and that is - to prepare the players for situations they face, and to put those players into position to win. We're obviously not even through the first year of the Simon era, but we're seeing some of the things that should have been done and needed to be done here that often weren't under the previous couple coaches before him. Huger was so hell bent on talking and using defense as the reason for 90% of our shortcomings (even when in cases it had nothing to do with our issues) that it became beyond annoying to hear him talk about it. Now I'm not saying it wasn't bad or poor at times, but even when it was decent and BG couldn't hit the broad side of a barn offensively for a game, or stretches of games, he continued to harp on defense, defense, defense and just ignored the elephant in the room that he thought somehow was just going to rectify itself by poor shooters continuing to shoot. And there were a number of times when Orr (lovely man, may he rest in peace) would literally shrug his shoulders about how to deal with our deficiencies. And that's not a play on words, he would literally shrug his shoulders, as in he had no idea how to fix our issues. While we haven't seen how Simon navigates a rough stretch or season like those two did (and I hope we never have to see him do it either), I do very much get the impression he's capable and able to help his team and players - as he is with managing them to a 13-4 start (4-1 in the MAC) with 4 players out with injuries. We look and seem to have a plan when we take the court, and I haven't really seen that since the one year Jans was head coach (he took that team he inherited and had them playing much differently than the year before with many of the same players). I've been very impressed with Simon so far.hammb wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:19 pm The final offensive possession by BG was some brilliant coaching. Re: At Miami
Love this team and the effort, but if they don't get their free throw shooting up, it's going to cost them games against the better teams where there's little to no margin for error.
Frustrating to see Hill struggle so much. With the amount of times he gets to the line, he could be averaging about 25 a game easily.
