Dakich's name being floated a lot...

I was just sayig what else could happen. Someone else in another thread stated another player asked for his release and it goes along with what I heard about his grades. I would love to tutor, but already tutoring 4 students at BGHS, working, and other stuff so my plate is full. Its just that BG has had players transfering out way too much the past few years. Just when you think you may get some chemisty over the summer, one or two guys leave the program
I'm going to follow along with Grant here and be happy we have a JuCo All-American coming in. This guy will probably be the best player on our team next year unless Steve steps up his shooting percentage. Vandy is a big blow for the post game but don't count out Lefeld! He is making HUGE strides with his game and getting a lot faster in the post. Sure he didn't play much this year and probably can't handle everything by himself, but I'm going to go off on a limb and say the staff is probably worrying about the situation the same way we are. This looks bad on their part and I'm sure they realize it and are trying to find another 7-footer. Everything for next season will work itself out, I have faith.ZiggyZoomba wrote: So, you'd rather have Austin here and the JuCo All-American NOT here? Hmmmmm... interesting view.
My biggest concern is how this is starting to look for recruits. There may be reasons of wanting to be closer to home and such, but to a new player, he has to wonder. I'm sure blame here gets placed on the coach. However, I'm not blaming anyone for anything until I hear some real facts about players disliking coach. And once again, we are going to be lacking the senior leadership next year and I'm sure that will hurt new players as well.
Somehow we need to get better players here that are more committed to the team. As a fan, I can only do my part in showing up to the games and showing them they have support from me in their time here. I think if we filled Anderson Arena up every night, win or lose, the players would appreciate and respect being here.

Speculation time: Is this why we're seeing the exodus at this time? Could it be that there is more to this that is yet to be relesasd and these kids don't want to hang around if DD is going elsewhere, i.e. DePaul?ZiggyZoomba wrote:An article from the Chicago Sun Times:ZiggyZoomba wrote:as a leading candidate at DePaul...

Frankly........
How could DD be a real prospect to go anywhere else when he hasn't gotten the ship righted here yet?
Seems odd that another school would even be entertaining the idea of hiring Dakich with the exodus that has been going on. You'd think that they would be very wary of Dakich at this point.

If by "he hasn't got the ship here righted" you mean he hasn't been to the NCAA's, that didn't stop WV from hiring him and that didn't stop Larranaga from getting hired at.....where the hell did Larranaga go again?
Anyway, if you're referring to the exodus of players, I think that might be an issue you'd bring up in an interview, but I wouldn't disqualify him from initial consideration over that.

I don't want to see Dan go, but I would LOVE to see what he could do in a different setting. In the heart of Chicago, with world-class facilities... I have no doubt he'd succeed and take DePaul back to its Meyers era prominence.Flipper wrote:If by "he hasn't got the ship here righted" you mean he hasn't been to the NCAA's, that didn't stop WV from hiring him and that didn't stop Larranaga from getting hired at.....where the hell did Larranaga go again?

We have to remember, BGSU hasn't been to the NCAA tourney since 1968... perhaps the problem isn't the coach(es)....
And Larranaga went to George Washington, or George Mason, or Mason Consolidated, or something....

I think players leaving is the coaches fault. If you know your a tough coach, you need to recruit players who will respond to getting yelled at. I'm a fan of Dakich, but I really think it may be time to move on to another coach.

This was on the Tribune Sports website it was floating around some potential candidates.
Dan Dakich, Bowling Green coach
Appeal: Dakich, 42, hails from northwest Indiana. He's 134-101 over eight years as a head coach. West Virginia thought enough of Dakich to hire him two years ago before he backed out, and imagine how much mileage his "I-stopped-Michael-Jordan-in-college" story would get in Chicago.
Concern: Despite his consistency at Bowling Green, Dakich has never led his team to the NCAA tournament.

DD's not going to get that DePaul job unless Gregory turns it down, and there may be others. I don't believe Dakich is seriously considered for anything other than a lateral move right now. He's had some OK teams, but has three dead recruiting classes and hasn't done anything after the West Virginia debacle. The longer this goes on, the less he looks like the hot propsect he was when we signed him.
You know, if he does get to DePaul, he will have world-class facilities. So will everyone else. I love it when people can't succeed at a one level, and sit around and say that they could really do well at a more competitive level. If DD was the kind of coach who could carry DePaul back to national prominence, he'd at least have a program that was prominent in the MAC over the last three seasons.
Finally, I'm not saying that DD can't recruit. I'm saying he hasn't recruited effectively. I'm saying his recruiting has borne very little fruit over the past three seasons. It doesn't matter why--moral degenerates, wimps, dunces, guys who miss their Mother--you can justify each one however you like. In total, our recruiting hasn't brought results.
I understand we have promising guys coming in this year. Many people thought the same thing about Montgomery-Rosefelt-Hobson-Harwell-Lefeld, too. Maybe these guys are different. But I'll believe it when I see it.
That's what I think. Don't mean to be too negative, but I am discouraged. I hope for the best, but I feel like everytime I do that it gets yanked away. We'll be at every home game next season--I'd love to come back and admit I underestimated the whole thing.

I say good bye and I hope the door hits him so hard on the way out he has a large BG permanently imprinted on his ass. BG WILL be a better team without him on the sideline.
