Sean...we've covered all that..we've covered every issue you raised more times than I can remember. Go back as far as you can in the men's hoops forum and wyou will see discussions about Dan's coaching style, Dan's recruiting, Dan's cursing and players leaving....it's all there.
But now that the hand writing is on the wall...or at least it seems to be...we're trying to put that past us so we can move ahead. It's called closure, Sean. Maybe we're jumping the gun and maybe we'll get the suprise of our lives and Dan will be back next year, but it doesn't look like that now. So, people are just trying to put the best face on a nasty situation with the hope that we can all move forward without having a really bad taste in out mouth.
ok?

1) Believe it or not, it is possible to feel compassion for Dakich while disagreeing with his coaching and even acknowledging that his situation is largely his own doing. As a family guy who's also capable of mistakes, when I look at his life and career situation, "by the good grace of God go I."lilballer34 wrote:It id sad that you think it is ok for him to run off the last 10 guys that actually could have helped the program. U think College programs don't have crazy kids? Get a clue. How much more should we feel sorry for Dan than Ed Schilling at Wright State who is a CHRISTIAN man not Mr F Bomb. Remember Dan ran those kids off that he recruited. He signed there letters of intent the biggest mistake he made was coming back from WVU. Not for us at BGSU but for him. He will never get another shot Athletic Directors won't ever trust him again. So you can think that it is fun for him to get fired in my eyes it is not but he is not the man you portray him to be. There is alot of things that come back to get you when you hurt others. But the funny part is not one of the post will talk about the Jay Keys of the world the Jermery Kings, Seth Dolabou's the Ron Lewis Dan ran those guys off and each defection has gradually took a bite out of BGSU as it was when Dan was there. Lastly DAN be DAN not Knight smarting off to reporters throwing supporterss out of practice. That wears on people. The proof of the empty stand is PROOF that his way is noot the NORM. But each person can keep supporting him and yes it is hard for his family but was it hard when he ran off Crawford, or when he ran of Issac Roosefelt remember he recruited him or even Moss who he threw off for being late to class or when he ran Steven Wright off as well and Heck John Floyd was someone that ARTIE
PEPELEA and DAN recruited while he was at OAKLAND and he still transferred so Go figure? Dan we should feel sorry for you! You are a Saint and you have never wronged any STUDENT ATHLETES.
2) I figured that Peplea left for MTSU solely for job security. I have no idea why Stone hasn't left and how we acquired the new assistant.
3) Perhaps Dan ran off some of the players, but I don't buy it for all of them. Lewis? No way. Crawford? Nah. Montgomery or Rosefelt? Maybe. You make a fair point about kids being skull-fncked. Wright? Moss? Sullivan?
4) While it's balls of you to put your name on posts, it's not safe. Signup under a different name and keep your name off of your posts. Welcome aboard and clean up your grammer.
5) There is tons of good content and argumentation going back a couple years. This saturday morning, get up early, brew some coffee, and have at it. You have some catching up to do.
6) Where did Jeremy Keys turn up? He was a nice player here as a freshman.
7) This is my 1000th post on AZZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sean your knowledge is so broad and vast where have you been with all this wisdom? I mean you've posted all of 5 psot until today, then it's like who let the dog out! Go back to your dog house and lick youself please. Kicking a dog when it's down shows little class.lilballer34 wrote:I think Dan is one of the top basketball coaches in the country but that doesn't just win you games Brad Brownell at Wright State runs motion and he has the smae players but he has different tactics and that is the difference. So Yes Dan is a GREAT GREAT coach but it is more than just screaming and yelling at young men you have to get them to play.

Wow....for a minute there, I thought I was reading the hockey forum!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Lilballer, I am a college coach, and I am going to tell you that you are off base. While he might have run off a few of the kids, he did not run off all of them. Does he have the players that he needs to win on a regular basis with his style of offense, no. Is part of that his fault, yes. But you CANNOT know how every kid is going to act, or handle how you act as a coach. You can't know if a kid is weak and can't take that type of coaching. All he did was try to bring kids in here that would help the program. It didn't turn out that good, but if these kids didn't know from talking to some of the other players how Coach Dakich was before they verballed, then that is their fault. I would like to know what makes you such an expert on college basketball and how it works. Is it because you had "friends" that were on the team, or did you actually play yourself. Please, don't ever again try and tell me, or anyone else, that it ALL falls on the head coach. The players, especially the likes of Ron Lewis, are to blame also. Let's not forget, Mr. Lewis wanted to go to OSU because he was looking out for his own interest and hopeful pro career. He probably didn't like coach, but that is not the only reason that he left.

No, but that nice man from Nigeria (who I gave my checking account number to) thinks I'm safe. He won the Nigerian lottery and he's going to share his winnings with me! Now I'll be able to afford Budweiser and not just Busch! Happy Day!Dayons_Den wrote:Rob, you haven't run a credit check lately, huh?RobbyFalcon wrote:Why is it not safe?BleedOrange wrote:[

Don't worry guys-there are apparantly several Nigerian lotteries. I have received and cashed my check for $3,500,000. You guys had your money BEFORE you gave the guy your account numbers, right? Cuz, you know, some people got ripped off...HoopsFan wrote:No, but that nice man from Nigeria (who I gave my checking account number to) thinks I'm safe. That is a perfect post, hammb. You nailed it. I'll always root for Coach D wherever he coaches...hc or assistant. I still think he's a good coach as well. For whatever reasons, it just isn't working at BG right now. It is getting ugly and I feel for the man and his family. But credit Coach D for stating he knew this could happen when he went into coaching. Almost every coach gets fired sometime.hammb wrote:Nobody has said Dan is a saint, he most certainly is not. However, he is a very good man, despite not being a great basketball coach. I'll be quite glad to see this program head in a new direction, but at the same time I will always wish the best for Dan Dakich. Say of him what you will, but I will never question that he always did what HE thought was best for BG, despite how the results of his actions may have turned out.

Wait, wait, wait, is this the Hockey forum? 8)Jacobs4Heisman wrote: . . . You forgot the denial step that a lot of people around here were going through when we were beating the sisters of the poor by 7.. . .
Oh, wait again. No, the hockey fans do that when the team ALMOST wins a game.
Lets embrace the reality, that by the time BGSU celebrates its centennial in 2010, there will be a full slate of new coaches in three sports. The comments Greg Christopher had a tone to them. They struck me as being a new AD, with no implied obligation to be loyal to an old coach, harshly coming down on a guy whose time is being counted in days now. There was not a trace of buffer in the comment. It was a "this isn't your show, its mine" comment.
I think the young buck is about to come out of the barn. He's about a year into the job, performed his due diligence. Now he'll clean house, drive his new and retained old staff very hard to bring in real money, and things are going to change in a lot of ways.
We hope anyway.
I've said it before, being as close to coaches as people in BG have been prone to for decades, is and will remain a liability. It clouds being objective, because we wind up not wanting to hurt a locals feelings. Maybe there needs to be a strong, tough-love AD that can get more done.
I don't think there is a question at all as to what happens next month. And I too like and will only remember the nice things about Dan's time as head coach. Heck, I got to like Jimbo too, but in both cases, its time to go.

It's weird, because what makes BG awesome can also be it's greatest downfall. How many recruits say they love us because of the sense of family? Well, that sense of family also makes us entirely too loyal to our coaches. We get attached to guys like Dan & Buddy Powers who are both GREAT guys, but not great coaches.
I think we need someone to rule with an iron fist...win or get out.
