This is just a kid that didn't look into things enough and if he's not willing to cut his hair to play basketball, then he's not the type of kid we want at BG anyway.
I couldn't disagree more. These stupid little things are exactly why we have kids leaving the program every here. This isn't high school and it isn't the army. These kids are old enough to vote, fight for our country, and make important decisions on thier own. Telling them they can't play basketball because their hair is too long, or they have a beard, or a tatoo is riduculous. :x Yes you needs rules like curfews, attending classes, and practicing. but when it comes to a player expressing their individuality, let them. Isn't college supposed to be about discovering who you are and expressing yourself? Not about somebody telling me to cut my hair or I can't play?

One more comment. Am I the only one who sees huge differences in Dakich's approach to the Wright and Soler situations? Wright quit the team for crying out loud. Yet he begs him to come back. That shows me he isn't willing to let anything come between him and putting the best team out on the floor. Yet, Soler simply wants to let his hair grow, but the coach won't let him play. That seems to be completely opposite of what he did with Wright. Why don't you ask the rest of the team who they would rather have as a teammate: the guy who quit or the guy with long hair. Bet I know who they would rather have.
Very good points WH.

I'm with you warthog, and I have been saying the same thing for a couple years now. It is one thing to demand intensity and 100% effort from your kids, but I don't like a college coach telling them that they cannot have a 'fro or whatever their hair of choice may be. I just don't see what you gain from that. I know it's the Bob Knight way, but that doesn't necessarily make it right!

If we were winning championships every year, I wouldn't care if Coach D made them wear ladies panties under their uniforms. But alas, we are not winning so all these little things just seem to upset me. :?

I can handle them winning or losing, to be honest. I cannot handle them when they are costing you players.

In the football forum the talk has been on building a program for awhile now. We want to prove that we can build and sustain a program. Well, I want to be able to do the same thing for the basketball program as well. This is where the hair & stuff is upsetting me: it's causing us to lose players. You cannot build and maintain a program if you cannot even keep your own players in the program. Not only that but all these players leaving the program looks terrible for your graduation rate as well.

I'm just sick of players transferring. It's reached an epidemic level and it must be stopped if we're going to ever compete in this conference again.

Hmmmm.

While I whole-heartedly agree with the above posts objecting to DD's thick-head rules on hair, maybe we should hold off on our reactions until we get a reliable, uncontradicted account of the whereabouts of Soler. Eh?

I agree that nothing positive is taking place until we get word on Soler officially, perhaps Friday at Creason?

The fact is that my frustrations with the coach and basketball program in general have very little to even do with Soler. If the rumors are true he is nothing more than the next example of an epidemic. Unfortunately this has been a problem for about 2-3 years now. The fact that Soler may fall victim to this plague should come as little surprise, really.

It does sound like Soler is staying at this point. Sorry to get things worked up about something that turned out to be nothing.
The person I talked to said that a JC player had decided not to come due to being asked to cut his hair. Soler was the only JC transfer I knew of, so there is where I made an assumption. I still think he was referring to Soler, that there really was an issue, and that it had been resolved between him and Dakich and my source just didn't know that yet. Were we even on any other JC guys that this situation may have applied to?
The person who told me has always had accurate information in the past, they were just a bit behind on this one. A lot behind actually.
Again,... my fault for posting before the whole story was known. Sorry.

I said hello to Steven Wright as he walked into Anderson Arena yesterday at 12:30 PM. There was a bball camp going on for youngsters.

Go Falcons!

You really should NOT have posted your assumption about Soler. If you had known it as a fact, that's one thing, but you gave everybody bad information. You aren't helping anybody by posting false information, and could potentially hurt someone. However, I don't mean to single you out b/c it seems that a lot of the posts lately have been loose on factuality.

I'd like to suggest that we all try to be more diligent about what we post as FACT. There's been a lot of garbage posted out here lately and really degrades our site. Differentiate between fact and opinion, hunch, guess, etc.

I agree. There is a difference between getting some inside scoop and spreading rumors.

Lecture on as you see fit. I realize the mistake I made and the problems it could have caused. This person is truly 'inside' and hears it all. I've never gotten completely inaccurate information from them before, so felt confident that they knew what they were talking about. With that said, I will no longer post anything ahead of an official release, even if I do know it is a fact, because I don't want to cause any problems in the future.
I promise you that I do not intentionally ever spread false information and will guarantee that it will not happen again.
For the last time, I sincerely apologize.
I hope that satisfies everyone :?
