Best guard combination in the MAC? The same two that sat behind Luke Kraus? Have you seen Toledo, Kent, or Akron play? The same two that launched 39 shots in a 14 point loss?

I see our guards in the same light I've seen so many of our other players over the recent years. I think both Henderson & Clarke have some good athleticism. Legit D1 athleticism.

However, neither of them have a real clue how to play the game. Neither show a good jumpshot. I don't know if it's fundamentals of the shot or what, but they're both all over the place...one minute nailing them other minutes looking like it's a miracle to draw iron. Neither play under control...always trying to do too much and turn it over all the time. Clarke actually has some decent handles at times and can get to the rim, but neither of these guys can finish in traffic to save their lives. When they do get to the paint they're just tossing it up there and hoping for a foul...no creativity at all to put it in the bucket.

To compound that they are playing for a coach that has no system at all. The entire offense is (and has been for the past 6 years) pass it around the perimeter until it feels as though you should shoot it now. Flipper said it well and that's pretty spot on.

MAYBE, just MAYBE, if they had decent coaching both of these guys could have been taught how to put that athleticism to good use. Maybe they would have found some consistency with their jumpers, or learned how/when to pass rather than take your own shot, when to attack, when not to, etc. Unfortunately they've played their entire collegiate careers for a coach who seems content to do as little as humanly possible while still collecting a paycheck.

Tisdale looks as though he's got some real nice skills too. Not only does he have some skills he's HUGE for a MAC guard...especially PG. I hope to god we get him a real coach next year before Orr ruins his career as well. I don't think he's as athletically talented as Clarke/Henderson are, but with his size if he gets actual coaching he could be a matchup nightmare for MAC teams....like our version of a Sonny Troutman

Go Falcons!
Any idea on when they'll be availible?

Also, Shane Kline-Ruminski runs an organization that helps teach shooting and offensive skill development:

I lolled at the pass it around until you feel you should shoot comment....."Like you really need to feel it. Listen to your gutts guys"
Tisdale has ridiculous hops from what I saw last night. I can't really speak to his lateral skills but I was surprised to see you say he was not as athletically gifted.
Also I don't see Clarke as totally out of control out there.

Caveat: I saw none of the Wisconsin game, just something to keep in mind.

My comment RE: his athleticism is with regards to quickness and explosiveness. I don't doubt that he can jump, but with his height I think it maybe looks like he's jumping higher than he really is? I don't know, it's really tough to say since I"ve only seen the kid play 3 times, but it seemed to me he wasn't as quick off the dribble or cuts as Henderson/Clarke are.

Again, I didn't see last night's game, but with Clarke he just always seems to be trying to do too much. I mean, all last year and so far this year he seems to always be a turnover waiting to happen. Also, as I said, when he does get inside (which he CAN do) I'm not seeing a lot of finishing out of him. That's a MAJOR issue for this group of guards. Beating people off the dribble starts to lose a whole lot of value when you can't actually finish in there. I also think that until one of them starts knocking down some outside shots they're going to find it increasingly difficult to get to the basket.
