I love the Stroh and I think the capacity number is about perfect for BG (and probably most other MAC programs as well). I have very good seats and I enjoy the game from those seats immensely. My only complaint about my seats is the lack of cupholders. I just feel that should be standard in all sections of all sporting venues. Of course I'm disappointed more times than not as so many places do NOT have them available in many sections.
Other than that those seats that face the wrong way are a definite peeve of mine...I'd be miffed if I bought those tickets and didn't know what I was getting myself into. Knowing the arena like I do, I'd never sit there or recommend it to anyone else. Speaking with the project manager he basically indicated that every time you add a seating angle to an arena you up the costs immensely. THat's why the decision was made to keep the 90* angle there. Like I said, he sounded disappointed in that. He also lamented the stained concrete flooring throughout was a cost cutting measure (although I actually LIKE the look). He also wasn't happy with so much white on the East wall. They've since added the orange shading which I really like.
My observation is that I think the video board is pretty good, but I think it has some refresh rate issues, which I'm guessing were another cost cutting measure.
Bottom line is there are things about the Stroh that show it was done on a budget. However, it is still far and away the premier sporting venue at BG, IMO. I also like it a helluva lot more than any of the other MAC arenas I've been in, and that includes the renovated Savage that cost them about the same amount as the Stroh.
I look forward to taking my future children to the Stroh and sharing BG hoops with them the same way my grandparents took me to Anderson when I was a kid.
BG vs NIU
Re: BG vs NIU
Time will tell how the Stroh pans out. Buildings usually stand 40-60 years. Like I have said many times over, If BG bb catches on in a BIG way it will be a tough ticket being so small.

That's what I'd like to see. Have it be the premier ticket to hold.zete wrote:Like I have said many times over, If BG bb catches on in a BIG way it will be a tough ticket being so small.

I will probably happen a dozen seasons or so over the next 50 years if history is any kind of measuring stick.
People usually don't get excited over MAC games in BG unless the opponent comes in as a top twenty-five team. Most of the students here, and the folks of Wood County in general, have been wearing OSU appeal since birth -BGSU is right in the middle of Big Ten country. Not much more needs to be said.
Sometimes attendance will perk up over long home-court winning streaks, Toledo, recently Akron. But for the most part, as good as the league is, it is just not supported here year in and year out. Hell, Im not saying anything you don't already know.

I just feel like this is a meme that takes off without facts. Yes, he hired Louis Orr. Sure, maybe he's responsible for not having bowl shaped seating at Stroh or cup holders. Maybe you can put the Ali Mann fiasco at his office too. I don't know.
On the other hand, he fired the previous AD's football coach and hired Dave Clawson. He promoted Jennifer Roos when Curt Miller left. And he hired Chris Bergeron. He hired Eric Nichols and men's soccer made it to the MAC Finals in 2014. He fired Andy Richards and the women's soccer program is showing signs of life again. And he brought in Danijela Tomic, resulting in volleyball winning its first NCAA Tournament game ever.
Not to mention that whatever is wrong with Stroh Center, it's a D1 facility that was conceived, constructed, and opened during Greg Christopher's tenure. And he played at least some role in the largest donation ever to the men's basketball program.
I just think that it deserved a rebuttal. I am fine with the job Chris Kingston has done. But the department of athletics was better when Greg Christopher left than when he arrived.

Giving Christopher credit for people making donations is like giving the President credit for the weather or the economy. People reached a point in their lives where they needed to do it before the end or while they could still enjoy it.
He did some good things no doubt but I think he also benefited from the administration taking a more active role financially.
