Seton Hall plays off campus at Continental Airlines Arena at The Meadowlands. They averaged a little over 6,000 for their home games last year.

I guess I am indifferent on this hire…and that leaves me a little disappointed. I was hoping that we would go get a young and upcoming assistant rather than some guy that has failed at another job. I know you are going to tell me that he gotten teams to the tournament and has “coach of the year” awards to his credit. But if was all that he would still be at Seton Hall, right?

The exciting part is we have a new direction and an air of optimism with a new regime. I just hope he is the right hire. Nothing about his resume wows me.

Why didn’t he get the job at Northern Illinois, or Eastern Michigan or Central Michigan or Ball State? He wasn’t even mentioned or interviewed for those openings as far as I know.

Because he didn't want to coach at those schools so he never applied for the jobs?

Did I read somewhere he's never had a losing record? I don't quite equate that with "failure". He was reportedly fired by Seton Hall for reasons other than performance which makes sense, since he performed well there.

The first time I ever heard of Louis Orr was that he WANTED this job. I don't know, maybe because it's a stop between his home area and his wife's home area. Maybe because he misses the country. I don't care, he's here and he surely knows hope chea^h^h^h^h frugal BG can be so that's a plus.

He's had losing seasons, but his overall record is 100-80 career. That included the one year he spent at Siena after Paul Hewitt left to take over Georgia Tech. 20-11 at Siena, 80-69 at Seton Hall. Anyone who can win Big East coach of the year will be able to cut it in the MAC.

I would be concerned if he had more than one losing season in his first year at Seton Hall.

That's what I read -- only one losing season in his career. That's no failure at schools like Siena and SHU.

Another year for Otis.....
And I'll add to this... a seasoned and successful NBA veteran big-man coaching Otis and teaching the team how to USE a big man.... I believe Louis Orr will make OP a VERY good player!

So the BG job was so head and shoulders above the others that he didn't even bother to make an inquiry or put out a feeler? I don't believe that for a minute. I just think that those other MAC schools looked at the all the candidates avialable, inlcuding Lou, and decided to go in a different direction.

He just lost the job at Seton Hall last Spring. I think it had more to do with timing. Those schools may have hired coaches before Orr hit the market. Or Orr decided to take his buyout cash and relax for a year before jumping back into the fray. There are a multitude of viable reasons that Orr is not coaching at any of those schools that are a better explanation than "they didn't want him".

I see a lot of comparisons between Lou and Stan Heath. Both got their first head coaching job at a mid-major program and had immediate success with someone else’s players...Lou at Siena and Stan at Kent.

Then after only one year they both land jobs at “big time” programs…Lou in the Big East at Seton Hall and Stan in the SEC at Arkansas.

They both failed to live-up to expectations, unrealistic or otherwise, at their respective “big conference” schools despite some limited success.

Now the both end up back with head coaching gigs at places like South Florida and BG.

That’s why I would have rather seen a hot assistant get he BG job. I want the bigger programs to be coming after my head coach. That means you are having success. Curt Miller on the women’s side is a perfect example. I just think we have hired one of those guys who tend to bounce around.

You know how you get a gut feeling about watching a team play? You say, man that guy can coach, or can recruit, or both. I have never had that feeling about one of Lou’s teams.

I guess only time will tell, but I am excite at the prospects of new era of basketball at BG.
