BG vs Ohio State
I think Jimmy just learned what "apex" meant, and promised himself to use it in a sentence every day. Cause yeah, that one shoulda counted.Warthog wrote:Jim Jackson was a homer. On that block that was CLEARLY goaltending, JJ says "I think he might have got that at the apex."

Ok, this is going to be totally off the wall but I think that Marc Larson is the only reason we didn't get blown out in the game against OSU. BG was down 40-27 when Buford from OSU went up for what could have been a huge dunk that made it a 15 point game...Instead, Marc Larson was in perfect position and took a huge charge that helped BG start their comeback...a 13-3 run followed...maybe more, I haven't gotten that far into the game...That was a HUGE play by Marc Larson.

Jackson learned the word "apex" and VDub learned the word "huge".VDub26Falcon wrote:Ok, this is going to be totally off the wall but I think that Marc Larson is the only reason we didn't get blown out in the game against OSU. That was a huge call by the referee. I thought it was obvious that Larson was not set. We got a break that it was called a charge and not an and 1 opportunity for the Bucks.VDub26Falcon wrote:Ok, this is going to be totally off the wall but I think that Marc Larson is the only reason we didn't get blown out in the game against OSU. As others have stated, Larson is a hard worker and plays pretty solid defense, but he is a liability on the offensive end. He can make the occasional layup and chase down an offensive rebound, but he scares the heck out of me every time he has the ball. He should be a little more effective once we get around to the MAC season, but he was clearly outmatched last night.

Larson does not need to be set unless Buford is under control, he wasnt. That was the play he threw the ball behind his head and it went in.BGGrad01 wrote:That was a huge call by the referee. Larson is what Larson is. A backup big that won't score 20 for you, but won't miss a box out, take stupid shots, or turn the ball over.Globetrotter wrote:I am convinced that people who think Larson was a liability did not see the game. I am not sure he made a single mistake while he was in there. He may not be a great player, but he was certainly not a liability.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:If Larson doesn't see any action, I think we win that game.
Seriously. He was by FAR the worst player on the court.
He's good for 8-12 minutes a night (played 11 at OSU). Just because he line reads zero rebounds, doesn't mean he isn't doing his job. If he's keeping Lauderdale/Mullens off their offensive boards, he's doing his job.
I agree with all who gripe about them not going up strong. As a person who played inside in high school (i know, living in the glory days) but if i wanted to block a shot, it was EASIER if you tried to pump or not go strong. anyone who has played basketball should be aware that shot blockers don't like ti taken right at them. Psychologically it's a different story. get swatted once, you try to be more cute, get around the blocker, leading to more blocks...
Marschall and Otis will be one of the better inside tandems in the MAC. Marsch has a smooth inside post up game, can't play a lick of D. Otis can't score in a post up game, but will play good defense and match up with the other teams "big" (i think of Jon Reitz of WMU, who i think is gone by now, or that foreign dude from Buffalo, who should also be gone, and can't think of anyone else) and let Erik play against the more athletic 4 outside of the post.
Overall, it was a good game. Playing a game like that in that kind of environment will help the team when they go to Athens or Kent and its a rowdy MAC game, but they'll be ready. Excited to see BG not be in teh cellar in the MACE (i hope)
