Big turnover and a huge 3 for Eastern. 69-66 with McElhinney's bucket against Floyd.

:52.7 left . . . just under now . . . Wright fouled.

Wright makes 1 of 2 AGAIN and Medlock gets an easy layup . . . 70-68.

:40 left and BG has to handle the ball
option if you can do this every game it would be awesome, thanks, it was perfect and a good way to follow without seeing it.

I still think this team has a MAJOR problem with coaching, as our players cannot seem to close out a game. They tried to give this one away tonight, but they were lucky that the opposing team was EMU, even more inept than we could hope to be.

I really hope Dakich gets canned soon. He's holding us down big time. It's really sad that I am such a big supporter of most things BG, and I just absolutely cannot get into this team even a little bit.
Same feelings here......except I think you can attribute some of it to the coaching staff beating the players to death physically and they never have fresh legs to last an entire game.
Yeah. And throw in the fact that he let's so many players rot on the bench (Moten, Clements, Dusan, Guerin) and plays a style that results in frequent fouls, and you have a system that makes no sense whatsoever.

Beyond that, exactly WHAT is the point in starting a guy, letting him play just a few minutes, and then sending him to the bench for the rest of the night. Can somebody please provide some reasoning for THAT?
I cant give a reason for a player not to come in again during the game...that is foolish unless he does something very bad in the discipline department in those first minutes. However many teams dont start their best 5. Reasons

1. They could have a guy on the bench who scores in bunches and is young and undisciplined, fouls to much and causes too many turnovers. You 1)dont want him setting the tone early when 2) dnt want him to foul out when you need him at the end.

2)You could also have a player who is streaky, has good games and bad games, inthose first handful of minutes a coach can read what he has on the floor and see if it is this players night or not.

3)Matchups also come into play. Lets say we started 2 Big men just to match up defensively but our 4 was just in for size becuase the other team had two greeat big men. You find out right away that one of their big men is off so you bring in a smaller lineup. It is organic in that sense.

4)Plus you could have a player who comes off the bench for a scoring threat/spark with a group of backups who are more utility glue types, in there to keep the offense rolling.

The only reason I could see to sit a player an entire game is that if he was a complete defensive liability and the other team never had a player he could even come close to matching up with. You find out in that first few minutes he is out of his league on defense and chasing the entire time and you never see a player go in on the other team that you feel he can matchup with. Now I personally would still put him back int he game and try to work something out with double teams and zones because tis a long season and destroying a 20 year olds confidence early by burying him on the bench is not smart.

Some coaches will take a kid out after a few minutes and sit him for the rest of the night because they don't look like they have their head in the game. Maybe the kid wasn't practicing well, didn't look focused during the walk through and continued on that track during the first minurtes of the game. The thinking is you sit the kid and let him show you in pactice that he's ready to start playing again.

I think that's the kind of coach DD is....

ok, im really getting sick of you saying this crap about dakich, yeah hes not the greatest coach in the world, but hey give the guy some props. this team is no where near the most talented team in the conference but were competing very well with the better teams. its not his fault that the refs are ALWAYS against us and that the kids just dont make the shots they need to at the end of games. this team never gives up and thats a reflection of the coach. i dont know about you but i love the way this team never gets down on themselves and fights for everything. even when theyre down 20 they scratch and claw and fight back into games. you also have to remeber that we are in a sick east division this year. wed be in second place in the west. so get off dakich, i think hes doing a decent job, id like to see you coach this team and get them to play as hard as dakich gets them to play harder than anyone in the conference. sometimes shots dont go down and A LOT of times get screwed over by the men in stripes.

For f---ing out loud people - WE WON! And you're calling for the coaches head? Seriously? This is absolutely out of control. You people couldn't find anything positive in Candyland. The sugar plum flowers would be too sweet, or the lemon drop sun too tart. Un-FALCON-believable.

Get a grip folks. You're makind yourselves look silly.

i agree completely...these people are too spoiled, they need to appreciate a win for a win. it doesnt matter if you win by 3 or 30, it counts the same in the standings

A win is a win..no one felt sorry for us in all of those close losses against supposedly better teams. Buckley at Ball State should be fired, too because they took a beating to Eastern on Saturday...right? Come on..we won a close game. Maybe that will kick start us to get over the hump when a close game comes in March.

First of all, BREATHE, second . . . I'm not sure what MAC standings you're looking at b/c 5-7 still accounts for a third place finish in the West. So one way or another, we're still mediocre at best.

The comments on the refs are getting really annoying too. We are constantly bailed out by the referees at home.

If you don't believe me, actually buy a ticket and make it to the game. It's one thing for Kurt Cowan to bitch about officiating . . . he gets paid to do it, but trust me . . . we foul a lot and a lot never gets called b/c we are playing at home.

My only problem with the thought, "Look what we're doing with our talent level" is that in college the coaches are responsible for their teams' talent level. I know we've had a lot of transfers, etc, but there must be a reason so many people are transferring. While Dan does a good job getting his kids to give maximum effort, he seems to do a lot to create his own troubles, IMO.

1) These coaches know the academic status of the HS kids when they're recruiting them. It is nobody's fault but their own when kids don't qualify.

2) We're always in foul trouble at the end of the games, because our defensive style puts us in trouble. We also refuse to use our bench and leave the same 7-8 guys out there the whole game. They also fatigue as the game wears on.

3) We lose kids to transfer, in large part (IMO), because we don't let them play.

4) We are consistently among the least athletic teams in the MAC, because we don't bring in top quality athletes. When we do, we seem to prefer playing the unathletic white dudes. Thus leading to problem #3.

It seems to me these are usually the biggest problems with our program over the past few years, and I think you could make a case that these are directly on the coaching staff. Now, I do agree that Dan gets a lot out of what he has, but it seems to me that he creates a lot of his own troubles. I'm not real up to date on the coaching scene, so I don't know who we could get to do a better job, but it is certainly frustrating to have the same issues year in and year out.

hey option, im a student and have been to every single freaking home game! and just to let you know, most of them im on the floor or in the second row cheering the guys on so quit assuming i dont go...im there all the time! and comstantly baileds out by the refs at home? did you see the OU game? probably not? ill admit, the referees did a god job this evening and thats probably the reason why we won. AND WE DID WIN, i dont know why were all fighting and having these stupid arguements. and did you honestly expect us to be better than mediocre? i dunno about you but 5-7 was what i thought this would probably be at and weve had chance to be way better than that. get off of me about not going to games because im at EVERY one. thank you

Frustrating as it may be, Hammb, my point, and I think the point of others, is simply lay off of this stuff for at least a LITTLE while after a win. It is absolutely ridiculous for people to be finding reasons for the coach to be fired in a game ten minutes after we just came out on top.

I'm all for being realistic about our prospects (believe it or not), but for a lot of poeple, all of this better-than-thou (not talking about you hammb) crap about why the coach should be fired gets old enough when we are losing. When it crops up immediately after a win, that is just unacceptable, in my opinion, and I'm gonna call it out. I don't care.

I still maintain that there is much more to a coach's value, especially at an institution like Bowling Green State University, than wins and losses. In all of these discussions no one ever takes into account the ways in which a coach like Dakich enhances the educational culture of a University. I've talked about this before and gotten absolutely nowhere, so I won't waste my breath here. But, if you want to know why the Athletic Department isn't running Dakich out of town on a rail, drop me a line...
