This is awesome. What I didnt realize is that his head coach at his last place was making 1.7Million. I had no idea. Thats a substantial difference. Is Wichita State that different from us or if we hit on a guy and want to keep him can we pay that?

NCAA teams get roughly $1.5 million for each NCAA tournament game they win, so Wichita St.'s run last year to the Final Four likely helped to pay his salary. I don't believe they have a major football program either.

That is true, they cut football in the late 80s

My favorite quote from the Wichita Eagle article:

“I like to prepare, I like to scout, I enjoy the chess match,’’ Jans said. “It’s fun to try and figure out how to attack a team and take them out of their comfort zone."

Also in the article: "Marshall said Jans is a connoisseur of red wine and chocolate"

I have a good feeling about this guy. Fantastic job BGSU on targeting this guy and getting him.

I'm still pumped about the direction of bgsu basketball and athletics in general, really.

I took the time to email Chris Kingston on Monday congratulating him and thanking him for the hire. Especially finding it in the budget to hire a sought after commodity.

Mr. Kingston took the time to reply back that day (which he always does, even on what had to be a hisy day) thanking me for the support, etc. The best part of his response to me was his final line: "I didn't come here to be second!"

Love the new ad, love the new coaches for hoops anD football. I have a feeling we're entering A very exciting er for falcon athletics.

I just got a chance to watch the video of the press conference.

One thing stood out above all others: when Chris Kingston took the time to thank Bill Frack and note all he's done for the BG program, and then walked down that aisle to give him a hug and whisper something to him. It was one of those moments that tell you just about everything you need to know about Kingston as a human being -- and let me be clear, there are no negatives in what I'm saying.

Overall, I was impressed with how Coach Jans handled himself at the press conference and felt he was about as open and sincere as a coach can be when talking about himself, his career and his goals for a program. He was also very open about how he intends to get BG from where it is now to a championship caliber program.

I believe him when he says it will happen.

And I am really looking forward to hearing who he ends up hiring as his assistant coaches.

The one thing the media didn't bother asking (they were all pretty much useless at the conference, and I say that having once been a reporter and an editor) was how many others were considered for the job and who they were. I know Kingston probably would have not been able to directly answer the last question, but he probably could have given us an idea of from what conferences and regions of the country he was looking, and how many people he talked with.

In the end, though, I'm very happy with this hire. Very happy.

I got the feeling that it was Jans from the get go. That this has been the plan for weeks if not longer.

According to people in Wichita, Chris Jan's wife quit her job two weeks ago. Chris mentioned in his presser that Kingston met with him on March 11 in Kansas and offered him the job. Ironically, March 11 was the day after BG lost in the MAC Tournament. I wonder if Kingston went to Dekalb and then took a quick flight to Wichita.

That's awesome.

I hope he's here for either 3 or 30 years. Both of them. Dino, too.

The only sad part of this story is reading the tweets of Chris's daughter Maddie. Appears she is struggling and sad. I mean, she has made some wonderful friends in Wichita. Looks like next year will be her senior year and from the looks at it Maddie is an excellent athlete in softball, basketball and tennis. I am sure she is happy for her Dad but leaving her friends after 7 years must be difficult.

I'm sure we can. Bowling Green, OH, is a pretty friendly place. We just need to make the effort.
