I watched the SJU game, and have been to three college games this season around Chicago. I think BG looked as talented as any team I've watched. Wiggins hasn't improved as much as I wanted to see, and the defense missed some big assignments, but they are definitely better than past years. Some of the big shots St. John's hit were contested as well as you could hope for. Turner and Frye look smoother, Wiggins will give consistent double-doubles, which people on here have somehow turned into a liability??, and almost everyone is hitting their wide open shots, a surprisingly pleasant change from past seasons.Globetrotter wrote:Have you watched any games?drumstix2388 wrote:BG is getting quite a bit of praise over on the DePaul message boards for their performance against SJU following up their scrimmage victory against DPU. I understand the frustrations that people have had, but am also pretty tired of people acting like the world is crashing down after losing by 4 to a Big East team that will likely be in tourney conversations this spring. We're two games in, and people outside of the program are recognizing that this is a solid, talented basketball team. If we have another game like Old Dominion last year, then I'm good with hearing about how the sky is falling, but until then...come on.
Re: Zete: I don't think we'll ever get a Big East team here without doing a 3-for-1 (maybe a 2-for-1 for DePaul or Butler), but I totally agree that a game like VCU should be happening at home annually.
Look, we were a couple of dumb fouls away from beating a legit power conference, tourney team. If you can't see the overall improvement in that, I don't know what to tell you. I turned off the game disappointed, but encouraged to see what the season would hold. Then I came on to AZZ the next day and you would have thought we lost by 40 to Sinclair Community College. I've watched DePaul, Loyola-IL, and Northwestern play games this year against inferior teams, and the only one of those three I think are clearly better than BG is Northwestern, and not because of talent, but because of chemistry. If we don't get 18-20 wins this year? Yeah, I'll complain about it. But whining right now is stupid and presumptuous. BG isn't getting back to the tourney based on OOC play anyway.
