Yeah based on the tone and sentiment of the emails I commended Jordan Strack for not revealing their name on his report. I felt they perhaps wanted Jans to get a stern talking to but I too have seen what seems to be "gloating" or at the least rehashing and back slapping on the reports of the firing. Emails state that the kids just want to move on, but their actions and retweets paint a different picture. Certainly not blaming victims because I absolutely agree 100% with Jans firing and even with the families interjection that night. But disappointed in their actions in the last 24 hours.

Ya, one particular participant whose account is now protected, basically built a defense case for Jans, by tweeting at and into every report as the story was breaking. They wanted Jans fired for his actions, yet couldn't stay off the keyboard and show class when they got the end result they wanted.

If you wander over to toledoblade.com the names were not redacted. I don't remember what they were, but it's all there.

I saw that version too. Thought it was pretty crappy that he said didn't want to be revealed as the source and every news outlet redacted names except that one.
However, if they are indeed gloating about it, I don't feel as sorry their names are public now.

I'm going to add this one point (because I hadn't seen it mentioned, but might have missed it), and that is if it was going to happen, the timing was good for us. If this had happened in May or over the summer we would be struggling to find the right replacement and lose valuable recruiting time. Again, sorry it happened to us, but I believe it was the right decision, and if Jans was going to screw up than better now than in season or past coach hiring time-frame. Let's go get another winner, but with more class.

If this is true, then I am highly disappointed in the family. Writing an email stating that you don't want to make a huge national mess of things and hoping this will be an opportunity to correct a problem instead of fire the guy, then turning around and gloating that you got a guy fired is just distasteful. Their names were redacted from the emails sent back and forth, but now I wish I knew who they were so I could give them a piece of my mind. You should never gloat about somebody getting fired. What's wrong with people?

And before anybody questions it, I agree he should have been let go for what happened. But the people that reported it now want a parade in their honor, and that's disgusting.

Ron Tiller, is the name you are looking for. I think this is relation to Former Purdue football coach Joe Tiller.

Good point. If there was such a thing as a silver lining in all of this, it was that it didn't happen after the Final Four. Coaching vacancies are certainly one of the topics/issues that AD's and prospective coaching candidates use the Final Four as a platform to discuss. I'm betting if Kingston isn't already in Indianapolis that he's either now on his way or is already there now.

Disagree. The problem wasn't going out in BG. The problem was being sloppy drunk and aggressive and making a spectacle while doing so. Plenty of other coaches hit the bars. I can't speak for the current group, but when I was still in town, I would often run into Dakich, Brandon, Studrawa, Beckman, and a few others. They would all have a couple beers, shoot some pool and talk with anyone who approached them. Dakich, not so much, but the point is, they all went out and none of them ever did anything overtly stupid. I never saw anything wrong with that.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with going out and having a beer or a few drinks, even in BG. The problem was his actions. End of story.

Hdog wrote:Over on the Wichita board, there was one comment from one poster that said "BG over-reacted" by firing Jans??! Blew my mind. To be fair, the vast majority of their posters came down on Jans pretty hard for his actions - to be expected.

Another poster mentioned he had heard stories of Jans "antics at Wichita bars" while there.
If this is true, then it would probably be a good idea for BGSU to have potential coaches vetted more thoroughly before hiring them. How do you do that in something like this? Hire a private firm to investigate their background and talk to their friends and visit the places they frequent off hours. Sound like too much invasion of privacy? Not really. If you work for government with any level of clearance, you go through this same thing. Lots of big companies also do background checks like this when hiring certain personnel.

It won't cost that much, and it might save you a lot of embarrassment.

As for Jans: he's an idiot and obviously has a problem. BG did exactly the right thing. Now we just need them to hire the right replacement so the momentum Jans' staff began will continue without any setbacks.

Been in Florida the last week and cannot believe this happened. Stunned...but Kingston absolutely did the right thing. Just a punch to the gut. I feel for his family more than anything.
