Intresting thought from today's Blade

Post by orangeandbrown »

The Falcons' knack for constantly erasing large deficits, such as in the Buffalo and Akron games, is earning them the reputation as a group no team wants to face in next month's conference tournament.

What are your thoughts? Do you think this is right?

I partially agree with that statement. BG has showned this year that they can play with anybody in the MAC, and pretty soon, some of those loses are going to go the other way around. Hopefully, I hope it happens during the tourney.

On the other hand, that just might be wishful thinking.

Right. Wishful thinking was what I wondered. I hope it turns out to be true.

It seems like a silly, weightless comment. That same thing is said about every team entering the NFL play-offs too.

The MAC is balanced so no upset in the tourney is a real huge upset. But look at it this way, who wouldn't want to face a team that doesn't play well until they're down by double digits? I'm sure teams would rather face BG than Miami, Kent, Akron, OU, Toledo, etc...

It seems as BG has earned their record. Close losses at home intimidate no one.

Go Falcons!!

I think it's a very valid point. Irregardless (sic) of whom this team beat when, they have been in almost every game.

They beat Kent and played VTech to the wire (I really don't want to get into the intracacies of why they won).

When the tourny starts, all bets are off. This team has shown the heart to win. They just have to get over some mistakes and miscues which cancel out the hard work.

I'm thinking they make an impression at the tournament - and I'm hoping to be there.

Samarco, Wright and Opie are all capable of scoring points in bunches. You get two or all three of them going like they were in the second half of yesterday's game and we're a dangerous team. You don't want to hang your hat on that as a basis for your team over a full season, but during a tournament where one loss sends you home....we could definitely suprise somebody.

I somewhat agree with the comment in the Blade, but the reason I really don't is that we aren't winning any of these games, we're still losing them. If we were winning a few of them, then yes, I could see that. My thought is more along those lines centered around the fact that if we didn't burry ourselves with 20, 17 and 13-point deficits, but also showed we can make those kinds of runs, then yes, no one would want to face us. Meaning, if we could play a team even and then make those kind of runs to put away a team instead of fighting to catch up. Sure we have shown we can play with most teams in the MAC. But we are what we are, and that is a 4-7 team in the MAC and a team that is only 2-4 in the conference on its home floor. We're not threatening too many teams right now. But if we can start making those runs to put ourselves ahead instead of catching up, then it changes the tune.

to be honest i agree, anyone can play with anyone in this conference, it is a wide-open MAC...i think that if we could play a solid last 2 minutes of the first half and first 2 mins in teh second half...we could make a run in the tourney. its obvious that we can shoot that ball, wright and samarco just amaze me on some of the shots they make. but we have to play hard thourout the game

On any given day, BG can beat anyone. With a team that has been very frustrated, the tourney can be a whole different story. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.

But I bet if you ask Coach O'Shea, he is might happy his team doesn't have to turn around and play another team only 24 hours after his highly touted, MAC Championship caliber team took a squad that is supposed to finish in the cellar to two overtimes and came away with a 3 point victory.

Yes, this squad is dangerous.

This team is very good at keeping a game close. But until they can put it together they will not be a scary team. Hopefully that final piece falls into place in the tournament.
