MAC tournament??

Post by clevelandfalcon »

Ok, with the Falcons struggling right now, I was just wondering what everyone thought of their chances to make it out of the first round and on to Cleveland for the quarterfinals? I would really love to see them play in Cleveland. I think they definitely need the 8th seed so they can get a home game for the tournament. Going on the road scares me.

What is everyone's thoughts?

This is completely crazy, but I actually feel a tournament home game might not be all that great for us. Don't get me wrong, I would love for us to make at least 8th seed and get one, however we actually seem to be playing better on the road as of late. We can't seem to pull one off at home for whatever reason. I could be wrong but the last game we won at home was slUT. The team just confuses the hell out of me right now, when they are on their game they are unstoppable it seems. But they're only 'on' for about 3-5 minutes of every game so we just get kicked around all the time. Homefield advantage does us no good if the crowd has to watch a completely flat team for 35 minutes then get rowdy for the last five.

Even though we haven't played well at home in terms of wins and losses, I would much rather play a MAC Tournament first round game at home. With that said, I don't think playing on the road would hurt us much either. The only thing I have seen us do at home that we haven't seemed to be able to do on the road was storm back when we fell behind by a lot. Against teams like Buffalo, Akron and Ohio, we've fouhgt back from 20, 17 and 13 down. Now we lost them all, but we fought back. In road games against WMU and Miami, we've fallen behind by more than 20 and never recovered. If we could quit falling behind and using our runs to put teams away instead of catching up to them, we'd be racking up solid wins instead of heartbreaking losses.

Like every year, I believe we can get it done and win a MAC Tournament. We've never done it before, but I will always have hope we can. I don't feel nearly as confident this year as I did in say 1997, 2000 or 2002 that we could do it. But hey, we didn't do it in those years so who knows. Last year's game between Buffalo and Ohio featured what I thougth was the #4 and #7 seeds. If it wasn't for a last-second tip-in, the #7 seed would have won it. It's why you play the games. But for me, I'd rather have a home game.

If the tournaament started tomorrow, we'd host Toledo in a first round game.
