Moon Robinson
Moon Robinson
Before I get lit into for calling out someone on this board, I’m leading this off by pointing out a phrase in an article from the Toledo Blade today that said, “Moon Robinson, who hasn't scored a point in the past five games, missed the Falcons' final shot, a layup with one second to go.” Looking back over those five games he’s played in, that’s 50 minutes of action where we went 1-4. Now I’m not saying Robinson should be a focal point of the offensive or anything like that (we know that’s not the answer here), but he gives us nothing offensively when he’s out there and it allows teams to play off him and give help elsewhere. He’s just not a threat to score, which is also why he’s the last guy I wanted to see taking a shot to win it for us yesterday. But not only does he struggle to score from the field, he’s also only shooting .560 from the line. I’m partly pointing this out because John Floyd has taken a lot of heat for his PG play. Floyd may not be our answer either, but when he’s on the floor, he does have the ability to stretch a team defensively because he can score and has put up some pretty big numbers for us at times. It’s just a double-edged sword for us to swallow, because it seems the team flows better with Robinson but bogs down offensively when he’s in there, and it seems to score better with Floyd but the flow of the game gets bogged down. It’s obvious our need for a good PG. I think our recent success of having guys like Antonio Daniels and Brandon Pardon have made it clear how important a good PG can be that can setup an offense and also be able to score. Now if we could combine Robinson and Floyd’s best attributes, we’d have the PG we’re looking for.
GO BG!!!
Say what you want about Moon's offensive abilities, but when he came into the game yesterday, Antonio Chatman was locked down. Chatman ran wild on our defense when anyone else was checking him IMO. If it were not for Moon's play on the defensive end, we would not have had a chance to win that game in the overtimes and we wouldn't be complaining about him not being able to make a layup.

What Moon did in the previous five games is irrelevant. What Moon has done throughout his career is largely irrelevant. IMHO, if you have that kind of an opportunity to get to the basket you have to take it. I'm all for players staying within their limits, but that is a very different thing than being afraid to take a shot when the defense is overplaying everything else.
If your afraid to shoot, you don't belong on the floor.

And to add to that, if you can't make a shot, you shouldn't be on the floor in the first place or taking shots. The kid couldn't make a layup or free throws. Please tell me this kid is a walk-on for you, because if he is on a scholarship, you've probably wasted one on him. There had to be someone better out there you could have offered.Flipper wrote:If your afraid to shoot, you don't belong on the floor.

WOW!!! You've gotta be kidding me! Talk about a double-whammy! Robinson to replace Lewis? You guys definitely got shafted on that whole deal. It was bad enough Lewis left, but his replacement was this kid? Now I see why you guys are so pissed about the transfers. I'd get touchy when people talked about them too based on this situation alone. I bet Robinson kisses Dakich’s feet every day thanking him that he offered him a D-I scholarship. He probably takes out Dakich’s trash, cleans his office, washed his car, cleans Anderson Arena.orangeandbrown wrote:He is on scholarship. We signed him late due to (I think) Ron Lewis leaving.

Gotta disagree. You don't make that call at that point in the game...there may have been SOME contact, but not enough to warrant a foul, IMO. Much like you don't call offensive PI & touchy holding calls in the superbowl you don't call a touch foul on a drive with :02 left in a double OT game. Moon has to convert that.
As for Moon, I think what you see is what you get. He's an offensive liability, but he definitely can play some defense. I give him credit for not shooting a lot, seeing as how he's not a good shooter. He does penetrate well, but he does a poor job finishing it. Either scoring himself or finding the open man off of it, he just doesn't complete the play very often.
Our lack of PG is the single biggest reason that we are a below average team, IMO.

dont make that call? if a guy is fouled, he is fouled. i didnt know that the rules changed at different times in the game. if they call that foul and OU gets mad, thats their problem because they are the ones who committed the foul. if it is a foul (and it def was) it needs to be called at any point in a game. should a football referee not call pass interference on the last play of the game if the defensive back committs the penalty? its the same situation...if its a foul it needs to be called

FEAR THE BIRD!

I didn't think he was fouled at all. He went into the paint to make a layup where there were guys towering over him. He threw his body into them and tossed the ball towards the rim. The OU players had their feet set and none of them made any swiping motions or anything toward his arms that would warrant a justified foul.
There was certainly contact, but all of it seemed to be initiated by the offensive player, IMO. It looked to me as though he threw his body in there on purpose expecting to get the call. I don't like calling fouls on defensive players to bail out an offensive player that loses control of his own body. I'm sorry, but I didn't see that as warranting a foul call.

This is what I saw, too. Its certainly less of a hammer job than we did on that Ball State guy last year.hammb wrote:I didn't think he was fouled at all. fouls and a three
Robinson was fouled in my opinion at the end of the game. Also what was the ref looking at when he gave a three pointer in double overtime to OU. The players foot was clearly in the arc and I cant believe carrying was not called too.
