Patrick Phillips...

I just wanted to say how impressed I was with his play yesterday. He has earned the minutes and did a heck of a job yesterday.

I like the intensity coming off the bench.

He impressed the heck out of me yesterday. He works hard, moves well without the ball and seems to understand his limitations. He's a pretty decent rebounder for a (charitably) 6'-3" guy.

I like that he is confident in the high post. He got the ball there yesterday and looked to make a move or pass immediately. He made a decision quickly and went with it.

I agree with Flipper re: Phillips' rebounding. I don't know how many he had yesterday, but he was in there battling all day.

Agreed, he gives us a real spark, and he's not afraid to shoot in the key. I think to change things up we should try starting him in Soler's spot on Tuesday. He has earned it, and he seems to make us better. We want to run a motion offense, but he's the only who seems to head to the hoop off those curls.

If I were Dakich, I would certainly play Phillips on Tuesday vs. EMU based on how hard he played on Saturday. I don't know how well he practices, but just watching him on Saturday and how he kept us hanging in there being a warrior, I'd make sure he got on the court on Tuesday and see if he can pick up where he left off.

I think that Phillips has earned some time, for sure. A friend asked me last night, and I didn't have an answer... is Phillips still a walk-on? Or has he been given a scholarship?

I believe he has since been awarded a scholarship.

If Phillips isn't on a scholarship, you should revoke the one you gave to Robinson and give it to him.

Phillips comes in and gives this team a spark of emotion almost every game. He's also strong as an ox and not afraid to bang bodies in the paint.

I love what the kid brings in heart & intensity, but if you're relying on a player like him it's pretty obvious that you're a very BAD team.

Come on hammb can you give a positive comment without taking a whack at the team. This "very bad team" gave Kent St. there only league lost. Phillips is on schloarship this year. I wish he was 6'8", then we would have something.

Uh...this team sucks dude. I don't care what anyone tries to tell me I've been at every home game but one, and listened to most of the roadies on the radio. We aren't good. Yeah, we beat KSU...woohooo! And how long are we gonna be hanging on that win? A decent team would've won at least one game in the stretch since then.

I'm sorry, but the only positive you can say about this team is the same as you can say for Phillips: They play hard. Unfortunately they're thin in the frontcourt, an unathletic group as a whole, and overall we're one of the least talented groups in the MAC. The whole team plays like Phillips, and it's great to see a team playing hard. Unfortunately that isn't enough to make me say that we're a good team, because we aren't.

Pat Phillips is fun to root for, but I stand behind my previous statement. The kid would probably not ever see the floor (and certainly not get a scholarship) on at least 10 other MAC teams, and yet we're contemplating using him in a larger role. I'm sorry, but there is no way you can construe that as being a good sign for the quality of our team. I'll continue to go to the games and make noise hoping they win. However, until I see actual improvement in this team, I'll stand behind my statement that they're not any good.

BG beat Kent because they shot an insane 34-35 from the foul line. Other than Samarco, there really isn't any talent on this team. Dakich really needs to do a better job recruiting (and keeping) high quality players at BG. I'm just not that impressed with the current group.

They won because they scored more points than Kent.....that's really all that matters.

I wouldn't say this team is BAD....maybe mediocre to bad...they really need one or two guys to be good. If they had a decent PG who could attack the basket and a post player with a little more size or better feet, we'd be on to something.

The problem is we have a lot of guys who like to float around the perimeter waiting for an open shot. You can't base your offense on that. That's one thing Ron Whois did well, he took the ball to the basket. Wright should be that guy....but he hasn't been on the few occasions I've seen the team play.
