UT Student Section

Was it just me, or was it like the whole UT student section didn't care. You saw like 5 people standing up at one time, and I barely saw any of them cheer. They would just be sitting there almost silent when UT made a shot.

Comments?

Yeah...if it wasn't for the Blue Crew or the band, they might not have had anyone cheering besides the cheerleaders.

It's been really frustrating for those of us that actually do stand and cheer all game. UT does nothing to encourage fans to get up and get into the game, actually they do the opposite. We've been having ALOT of trouble with our ushers lately asking people to sit down, demanding that we respect the other team(no, nothing bad was being done just some ribbing of coaches and players that's ten times worse at bigger schools), harrassing the photographers to move(seriously yesterday harrassed both video and still photographers), threatening to kick out people for the stupidest stuff and just being altogether jackasses that encourage people to not do anything. Granted it goes farther than just them but we're kinda stuck on what to do to get everyone into it.

yeah I was surprised, playing the rival at home, I expected much more then the band, Blue Crew, and 5 students next to the Blue Crew to be into the game

Hey Metz....remember when we got kicked out of the UT student section at a womens game cause they needed room for their students to sit.....and then it was entirely empty anyway....that was a classic slUT moment!!

that should happen wherever you're at. the opposing teams fans have no business being in the other teams student section.

Ha! Malarky. Cadswallop. Some of the best fun that I've ever had at a basketball game was sitting in the Kent bleachers, adorned in orange and accompanied by only my wife, amongst some of the most loadmouthed, hostile, meatheaded Kent fans you could imagine. We won the game.

When going on the road, I recommend this practice highly. It's the best. Be warned, however, that you might need to relocate abruptly if the Falcons are having an off day.

HA! Tell that to Miami... My sophomore year they put our pep band RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of their student section. I almost got in a fight. I'm not kidding.

Couldn't agree more. I wouldn't want any other students in the BG section.

In response to your other post Shrak, I know what you mean there, too. For the women's game this year, the ushers and security guys were moving media all around under the basket. It seemed to only be people who didn't work for major TV stations though. Sensenstein was never asked to move yet other photographers and videographers were.

The little short bald head dude that runs security sucks if you ask me. Last year we were getting harassed by the blue crew and myself and Falcons4Life responded and were both told if we didn't stop yellilng back, we'd be kicked out. He even brought 2 security guards out to stand by us the rest of the game. He seems to love his job so much that he feels the need to place himself above everyone because it makes him feel better about life. I don't mind heckling people, but when we do it back, don't just yell at one side of it.

For those of you who do stand up and cheer, more power to you. I'm all about student sections and believe they are the most important things in college basketball. They can get a team fired up and get momentum going and kill it just as quick.

Some MAC schools student sections really do stink.. I agree about UT, and just to add to the list of the ones I know of: Miami and Kent State.

Miami students just don't seem to fill up the seats, even though they do sometimes cheer and Kent State is just plain sad. They have a great team this year, top of the league and yet when they played on TV yesterday, their student section was pathetic. Maybe 2 or 3 students were up cheering whenever the cameras panned their way.

I've never had the opportunity to view BG's section; how large would you say the student section is?

BG's isn't what it once was but has the advantage of being a campus school and having a small arena. UT has always been largely a commuter school where students live off campus and many have evening jobs. Nevertheless when the product was better and our gym smaller it wasn't too bad.

BG's students were always way rowdier though- I would love that kind of support. And the stupidity of not letting students sit courtside at Savagewhen season ticket holders rarely attend contributes to the dead atmosphere there. Saturday's game wasn't bad actually and I give the band a lot of credit for trying. I sat right behing BG's band at AA and they worked hard as well.
