At a recent meeting of some very important people, it was mentioned that the study of renovating AA was going to cost major $$$ (as many on here have speculated). It appears that they are down to about three sites for the "proposed" (once they decide which of the three sites will be the location) convocation center.

In the master plan diagram I saw, it had a convocation center out near the football stadium, but more towards Wooster Street and the Alumni Center and current parking lots. Any idea where the other two proposed sites may be? I thought I remember one of the proposed sites being talked about just outside of the south endzone of the football stadium, which I actually liked myself.

My understanding of the three sites:

1. South endzone
2. Intramural field immediately north of Alumni Dr.
3. Lot 6

It is my understanding that they do not want the convocation center to be right off of Wooster St. so the Lot 6 location is at the bottom of the chain.

My vote: #1 South Endzone

Ditto. With lockerrooms built underneath for the visitors, and suites up top.

Yep...south end zone sounds good. I guess it's decided then?

Well, if Grant ever meets with Pauk Krebs, he can tell him to take that one off his plate - we decided that for him.

He'll be sooooo happy to hear that!

I have heard that the south endzone would be the perferred location. I also have heard now that a nice new jumbo screen would be placed on the arena for football games. This all sounds great but it all comes down to $$$. I hope it happens before 2010.

I'd vote for them in the order you have listed above too.

Lot 6 has to be completely out of the question, parking is already a major issue on this campus. Unless they're planning on building a parking deck or restricting parking pass priveleges to non-freshman residents there will be no room for students on campus or even in the city. So that one gets no votes from me. The south endzone: while it would probably make cosmetic appeal for that whole area a lot better, I predict a vast drop in student attendance. As we've seen so far the last couple years, BG students are already incredibly lazy about attending the games played in AA. What will happen if they have to walk all the way out to the doyt to see basketball games? This makes me not want to vote for this location also. This brings me to the intramural fields: While at any other time I would say there is no way in hell you could take away a student area like that, however our intramural fields are a disgrace and I only use them to walk from my buddies' apartment to the ice arena. I have to give my vote out of those three choices to the intramural fields.

I have an alternative to those three. I have a personal vendetta against the saddlemire building. It is ugly, and I've never seen anything useful go into or come out of it. I am totally in favor of bulldozing it and putting a convocation center right there. There are plenty of flaws in my idea I know, I just really don't like that building. I've also heard that Kreischer and Harshman Quadrangles are going to be torn down within the next 15 years and major cosmetic surgery is going to be performed on this entire end of campus. Maybe there is some idea of working a new arena/convo center into this part of campus in those years to come. Just some things little birds have told me.
