The Great Debate

Post by OptionQB »

With 3 open scholarships available for the taking and 3 seniors for the upcoming campaign, do we go out and use a scholarship or two or do we package them for next year's class and try to reload with as many as 5 or 6, now that the 5/8 rule has been revoked?

It's not the most updated news . . . but theInsiders.com lists us as having Chris Berry, Miquel Hall, Schaefer Jackson, Matt O'Connor and Clyde Hooks all on the radar.

Berry has signed with Fresno State recently, so scratch him.

Two names that continually pop up in my mind are . . . Latez Williams and Brandon Lampley, both of D-1 State Champion Hamilton. Williams is a 6-6 slasher with raw offensive skills, but plays great defense and gets off the floor quickly. Reminds me of a young Ron Lewis . . .

Lampley is small. 5-8/5-9, but extremely quick. God knows how much PG help we need if Wright is indeed gone. Has pretty solid handles and shut down Brian Roberts for 28 of the 32 minutes.

Next year's seniors at Hamilton offer two more D-1 caliber guys, Adam Myers-White and Jason Miller, a combo guard at 6-3 and a lunch-pail type power forward at 6-8 respectively. Add in a very poised 15 year old sophomore, Billy Allen, 6-6 swingman and coaches' son that was the sixth man on the state championship team as a FRESHMAN and you can see Hamilton would be a very good spot to pick up a few quality MAC players for the next few years.

Take what we can get

Stupid question, but are Chris Berry, Miquel Hall, Schaefer Jackson, Matt O'Connor and Clyde Hooks all available for this upcoming year?

Assuming Fitch will not suitable recover from his injuries, we have 9 guys going into this year. I'd say we should sign as many D1 guys as we can get. At this point, I'd be surprised if there are any legitamate D1 recruits out there at all. We looking for speed and athleticism in our backcourt, and will need to sacrifice scoring skills (at least we have that). This is a desparate situation. I'm not looking forward to this season at all. I haven't said that since the later years of Weinert.

According to at least theInsiders.com all except Berry are available. I don't have eligibility information on anyone and stuff like that, but I'll post if I find anything.
