In Muncie

I was in Muncie watching BSU-Tennessee State while BG was getting drilled. I work with a Cardinal and I had never seen their basketball arena, so we went. Plus, Muncie is a party town, dude.

Anyway, here are a couple of observations:

When they announced the BG-WSU score, at like 41 to 11, there was an audible gasp, followed by light laughter. It's never good to be laughed at.

There were no students at the game. Attendance stunk but the temperature was in the low teens and it was windy. Still, there should have been more people there.

Their arena is fantastic. It's new and clean and sharp and it is really nice. The seats are right up on the court and the P.A. is clear. I'm sure BG is well aware of Worthen Arena as they explore building a new facility.

Moreover, while in Indiana, I heard some talk about future IU coaches and DD's name was never, ever mentioned. I doubt if it will be again.

WSU stinks. And they hammered us at home. How awful is BG? Are we still a team no one wants to face in the MAC tourney? If we get to the MAC tourney, how much do players and coaches have to pay for tickets?

Go Falcons!!

It's definitely a nice arena, though it's at least 10, probably closer to 15 years old by now.

Actually, the Indianapolis Star listed some potential candidates for the IU job, and Dakich's name was mentioned. I think his name will be out there, but anyone who has watched BG over the last three years (for the most part) knows, he's gotta be a longshot. But people around here still ask about him, and if he's still coaching at BG.

IU is still seperating themselves from Coach Knight. Why would they bring in one of his former cohorts?

Ahhh, I didn't read the Indy papers, I read the Muncie Star-Press, which is, as David Letterman reminds us, not only a great paper, but also the most feared move in all of wrestling.

And you were correct regarding the age of the Ball State Arena: it was completed in 1991. So it is not that new, but compared to Anderson or Millet Hall in Oxford, OH, (where I see most of my college hoops) it's still got that new arena smell.

Go Falcons!!

The only reason Dakich was mentioned is because Davis said IU needs one of their own to come in and coach. That's bull because Knight wasn't even one of their own. If IU goes after an alum, it'll be Alford. Dakich would have to be 5-10 down on their list if he's on it at all.

Yes, the Code Red Dance Team was a treat. The MAC has no shortage of very, uh, entertaining dance teams...

Indiana would be bottom-tier in the B11 for years after Thomas was done with them. He's quickly turned the Knicks into a joke. I hope IU does hire him since I would love to see them go down in flames (even more than they are right now).

Thomas falls into the Jordan mold of awesome player, terrible judge of talent.

I think DD is now and will always be on the list of "potential IU candidates". Whether or not the insiders at the university or the men's BB program there believe that or not, alot of members of the fanbase seem to think he deserves a shot for being an Indiana native and IU grad.

Although Muncie does have a strip joint (or two?) on the other side of town away from campus, the code red dancers are the BSU dance team. My half-time hot dog waited while we enjoyed their enthusiatic performance.
