ok, for all of you Dakich attackers, i feel your pain, hes not getting teh job done anymore...this team is in an absolutely tail spin. But how would you guys like Dakich's job of trying to recruit young players and keep them here with the abismal facilities that BGSU offers. Our Basketball arena is like a high school arena. yeah its filled with history, but players in this day in age dont give a rats behind at the history of the building they are gonna play in, they want to play in a state of the art facility! I pray that we are getting a new arena soon because that is the only way to save this program. Firing Dakch wont help because no one wants to come in and take over this program.

Coach K seems to have no trouble recruiting despite his Anderson-like, although about 3,000 seat-bigger, Cameron Indoor Stadium.

I see your point to an extent, but have you been to arenas or gyms like St. Joseph’s, Bucknell, Kent State, or even Duke to name a few? There’s no doubt a facility can play a large role in recruiting and I’m not denying that one bit. But I disagree completely that a small or old arena like Anderson Arena is the root of our problems. Those schools listed above have glorified gyms and have proven its more than just an arena. I’d like to see something done at BG, either a renovation or new arena, but Anderson Arena is the least of our worries right now. Remember, we’ve had a lot of players come to BG, our problem has been winning with them or keeping them here. I can’t blame AA for that.

Let me get this straight, you are ripping on Cameron Indoor Stadium?! Dude, that arena is probably the biggest draw among all arenas in the country. Cameron has the best fans in the country, probably the most history of any arena in the nation other than Rupp Arena in Kentucky. Try and tell me that playing in front of the Cameron Crazies isn't a good recruiting pitch.

Comparing Cameron to AA is laughable. We get 2,500 a game, maybe. I can't remember the last time Duke didn't sell out a game, they got friggin scalpers outside the arena for god sakes!

My point is that Anderson Arena is NOT the problem with our program... which is why I used Cameron as an example.
Sure, Cameron and AA are very different, but also very similar.
If one were to make the argument that BG's troubles are because of AA's fault.. then one would also have to argue that, in theory, Coach K would have the same problems because of the age of his arena.
Coach K doesn't have those problems, therefore the argument that AA is the root of BG's problems is not valid.

I can’t speak for him, but I think what he was saying is Duke wins despite what Cameron Indoor Stadium lacks as far as bells and whistles are concerned and uses it’s structure as a huge advantage. I worked in the ACC for eight years and Cameron Indoor Stadium is arguably the worst facility when it comes to bells and whistles for facilities which so many schools are caught up with. However, with that said, Cameron Indoor Stadium is arguable the best home court in the country and one of the toughest, and best, places to play or watch a game. I have been to Cameron Indoor Stadium several times. Inside empty, it's basically looks like Anderson Arena with seating all the way around. They've added things onto the facility outside of the arena and made a new Hall of Fame, new coaches tower, etc. Inside on game day, it's the best atmosphere in "college" basketball.

Funny thing is, if everyone who complained about the arena showed up at the arena and yelled their AZZes off, this would be such a non-issue it isn't funny.

Did you not just read my last post? Cameron Indoor Stadium is NOTHING like AA. Cameron does not have bleachers that are crumbling, scoreboards that do not differentiate 1's from 7's, a friggin wall on one baseline, and thousands of empty seats every game. If we get a new arena, I guaranteee that we will get thousands more fans to come to games, and we would get more recruits to look at BG, and new facilities would make the decision to transfer much tougher for our current players. Just look at professional sports, where the quality of you facility can determine whether you are consistently good or not.

yes.. because professional sports should be the paramount measurement for everything.

So true TG. AA could be one of the top atmosphere for college hoops if it was packed and loud every game.

its not packed every game because its falling apart, the place is embarrassing, yes if filled, very loud, very crazy great atmosphere, will it every be packed again besides against UT? probably not

it's not falling part - sure it needs some spotty work.. but falling apart? come on.
If the team played better, people would show up.. it's like that for any BG sport - it's been like the 25 years of my life I can remember following BG sports. If you win; people show up; no matter if you're playing in AA, the Doyt or the Parking lot in front of Founders.
