Gary Waters

Waters is reportedly close to a buyout of his contract and has said he'd like to coach next year in the midwest, maybe even the MAC. Is he Toledo's next coach??

According to BGSU insider Dale Barnard, BG and Toledo need to look for the hottest coaching prospect on the market.....Jim Welling. He might look good in Orange, but I'm not sure what JUCO schools wear orange. That's laughable.

I just see what Waters did for Kent and say, "why can't he do that at BG?" That Elite Eight team in 2002 were all his players (with the exception of Gates).

It would not surprise me at all to see him back in the MAC next year.

I am in no way saying Welling is or is not a good candiate, but why would it be laughable for a JUCO coach to move up to Div I ball? Fran Voll became the BG women's coach after many successful seasons in the high school ranks at Delphos St. John. If someone can go from high school to Div I, certainly a coach could go from JUCO to Div I.

How many years did Welling coach at Owens? If he is such a good coach, wouldn't he be more sought after? As a BGSU fan would you be excited if he were hired? Why not hire BGHS coach Von Graffin? He has a pretty good record!! Fran Voll and today's day and age of Division 1 MEN's college basketball have little to nothing in common in my opinion!!

To me the idea of Welling becoming the next coach is very laughable. Especially when all the Dakich haters on here is bitching about wanting immediate changes. You wouldn't get that from a JUCO coach that has no experience at the D1 level. Welling might be qualified to hold Dakich's clipboard, that's about it! Waters would be a great fit for BG, but the timing of the situation is a year to early since Dakich's contract isn't up until next year. I say we make Curt Miller the coach! That makes about as much sense as making Welling the coach!

there's a big difference between men's college basketball and football today, and women's college basketall twenty years ago.

Are they letting Waters go just because of missing that game? The whole thing seems strange given he was given an extension last year. Their record seems respectable given they play in the Big East.

Heard on ESPN radio that he had 5 years to make it to the NCAA tournament and didn't accomplish that goal so they bought out his contract.

If it was as simple as that, Rutgers is kooky for giving him a multi-year extension after his 4th year!

Talk to Dan "The Duke" Davis. Heard it while I was flipping through channels while he was giving his report.

Read on espn.com that both sides agreed that it was time to move on and that Waters resigned...

Toledo had some great results with a JC coach a few years back(not), and I believe he was even a D-1 JC head coach!! JC's have divisions just like the NCAA.

I'll bet Waters would coach here if we had an opening.
