When did we stop recognizing our Seniors????????

I know it's been a lousy year for men's basketball - but I thought they would be doing something to honor Mawel tonight. I was hoping they would do something before the game ( Larranaga always did that - and the women's coach does - because that way you don't have the sad situation after the game when you happen to lose - like we did last year!)

Anyway - all they did to recognize him was to say he was the only senior on the basketball team when they introduced him in the starting line up.

The cheerleaders, band members, dance team - got more recognition. Last home game Freddie and Freda and Sic Sic got a lot more recognition. Just wondered if anyone else found that odd.

How about #12 - Brian Guerin. Could he possibly be a point guard????
Still love Erik Marschall.
Congratulations to Matt Lefeld for being the only player to receive a 3.0 or better grade point average.
I sure wish those Pollitz twins would have come here. Especially Tim is really good. Plus they brought their own cheering section from Ottawa, Ohio with them.

Well, I for one want to say congrats to our one senior. Mawel Soler didn't imagine this would be his sention year. But thanks for staying and playing balls out all year. :smt038

A university rep approached Mawel about a presentation and Mawel promptly elbowed and tackled the guy.

Moten, Phillips and one other player all came back out. From what it looked like, they were supposed to have something afterwards but didn't. I was a little let down but the crowd sure wasn't sticking around to hear anything...

I was pretty disappointed as well. I stuck around for a few minutes after the game until all the players were gone and figured they weren't doing anything, so I left.

That sucks....there's an ass load of bad karma to come from not recognizing a senior. They need to do this stuff before the games like they do in football and with the women's team. Mawel should have at least gotten some orange and brown balloons like Casey McDowell and Jill Lause did before the women's game....

I'm going to assume that Mawel declined to come back out...I'd hate to think that DD has morphed into the kind of dick that would not honor a senior...

At Indiana and I'm certain coach Knight still does it at Texas Tech always recognized the seniors after the game, win or lose. I'm certain this is why coach Dakich does it after the game too. The crowds were a little bigger at IU and nobody left early.

I don't think Mawel wanted to be honored. Lefeld, Phillips and Moten were waiting around as was DD but then he said lets go. The annoucer said nothing during the game about sticking around after game. Very weird.

I swear they have done it before the game in the past. Or am I so old I am channeling Larranaga? :smt101

That is very bush league to not recognize a senior on Senior Day. Actually, it upsets me to think they didn’t do this for our lone senior, especially when the mere thought of a BG player matriculating to senior status seems like an oxymoron to many people inside and outside of our program. I know Soler was a JUCO, but I give him major props for staying at BG for two years as it’s longer that many before him lasted. I take my hat off to him and thank him and hope his career lasts more than two more games.

Yep, you must be channeling Larranaga - we've done it after the game ever since Dakich got here - - - - - until tonight.

Yeah that was some bullcrap. I waited around after the game and nothing ever happened. It was disappointed. That was the last time that wear will ever grace the floor of AA and they all just went right in the locker room. Mawel always hustled and had a way of getting under opponents' skin. He did all the little things and always went all out. I have great respect for him and thank him for his time in the BG program.

Knowing Mawel, he might not have wanted it. I don't know if he is graduating this semester, and he has always been the kid of guy to step out of that type of stuff. I have known him since his first semester here. Thats just a guess, but let's not point fingers at DD or the program or whatever. It might have been Mawel's decision.
