BGSU Head Coach Dan Dakich

"I thought Toledo was very good tonight. I thought we competed hard but our kids just made too many mistakes. That's what Toledo has been able to do to people in this building. We actually turned the ball over less than other teams have recently. I thought Toledo was very good. They played hard and shot the ball well. We had our chances and Ingram buried us with two straight threeS. It's been a long, tough year for us and I'm looking forward to this team developing with four senior leaders next year. This year obviously hasn't gone the way we wanted."

(on using the loss as motivation for next year)

"We have to commit in the off-season. We'll have four seniors next year and we've had very good teams whenever we've had that many veterans. This is a very difficult time for our team and everybody involved in the program. I told them if you work at it this will turn around."

(on the difference in tonight's game)

"I thought we made too many mistakes. Toledo was very good on defense and they've been very good here in that area. Our zone got us back in the game but we just didn't score enough."

BGSU guard Martin Samarco

(on ending the season with eight-game losing streak)

"I'm very frustrated. Losing is hard but I'm going to use this as motivation and remember this feeling and make sure my teammates remember this in the off-season."

(on the difference from the previous meeting at Toledo)

"They just outplayed us and stuck to their game plan and that's what won the game for them."

(on having four or five different players guard him)

"They had a lot of bodies to throw at me but I'm just going to remember this feeling in the offseason and keeping working to get better."

Floyd, Samarco, Lefeld and Phillips bear no resemblance to Matela, Pardon, Klassen and McLeod. I like having a lot of seniors to lean on . I like having talented players even more.

Why bother? I'm 99% certain Dan is coming back next year and I'm 99% certain that we'll be hearing the same complaints about kids transferring, not working yadda yadda yadda.....we'll get drilled by a bunch of teams that shoot the ball well because we defend the ball so poorly and the solution will be to "stick with it and keep working."

As God as my witness...I haven't been as pessimistic and frustrated by a team here since the 2000 football season.

Likewise. Generally I keep pretty quiet in the basketball forums. Not because I do not like basketball but because I do not like BG's style of basketball. Don't get me wrong I still follow this team and attend my 7-10 games a year. However, I hate our borish style of offense and hate Dan Dakich's drama queen antics on the sidelines even more. I keep quiet because I can live with it when we put a competive team on the floor. It's one thing to be boring and somewhat competitive, but it is an entirely different story to be boring and be a laughing stock. I watch a ton of college basketball and there are only probably a handful of teams out of like 330 schools in Divsion 1 that we could beat at the end of this season. That is unacceptable for a school of this size. Are we really that bad? Probably not but you are when you have a team that has packed it in.

I am so sick of his same old excuses.
"They shot lights out tonight"
-Yeah Dan why don't you tell us how we shot tonight instead
-could it be a bad defense?
"We really competed/kids played hard"
-Teams that play hard do not get manhandled on the boards, plain and simple.
-They also play good defense.
-Fouling does not equal playing hard
"bad calls" (not today)
-I'm sure they are all against you
-maybe another T will help

I realize I am restating what others have said but as a die hard BG fan this sucks.

If we do not fire him/force him to step down/buyout be prepared for it to get worse because there are more transfers coming. No I do not know that for certain, but just take a look at the product we had at the end of the year. A team full of stiffs who have all but given up.

Dan's kids might graduate but they do so at other universities

He's also used the "young team" excuse many times. But now he is hanging his hat on having 4 seniors next year. Gee, that means that those 4 players were juniors this year and monopolized a majority of the minutes on the floor (along with Wright, who was also an upperclassman). Last time I checked juniors are not considered to be young.
