Some good hoops news hopefully... Looks like the Polk fellow mentioned in the banquet thread is headed our way.

Otis Polk , a 6-foot-9, 285-pound center from Detroit Consortium Prep, made an oral commitment to Bowling Green, turning down a scholarship offer from Detroit Mercy. Polk was on The Detroit News' first team Class C All-State after averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocks.

this is very good news for DD and the program...we really need someone like him to crash the boards and dominate the inside

According to this, he's qualified, and that made the offers more serious.

I thought he had just finished his junior season, but I think he's actually a senior....which puts him on board next year.

i thought he was a junior too...that would be awesome if he was a senior and is coming next year cuz we need all the help we can get...all i can wonder is if he has such good size, why no one else has tried to get him?

Here's a Free Press article that refers to him as a senior.

In this story it also mentioned Marc Larson 6'-9" forward from Mattawan who is also headed to BG.

By adding a 6'9" forward and 6'9" center this should help the front court a bunch. Matt Lefled should get some help (rest) with these guys coming in. Time will tell. I would feel real good if we could get a JC point guard now.

Sounds good to me! We need some post presence in a big way and this guy will bring some size. I'm somewhat concerned that the reason he's still available is a lack of athleticism for a guy that big, but at this point we need post help so bad we need to make that sort of gamble.

Hopefully we can also add someone that can play the point...that's our other biggest weakness.

Polk is a non-qualifier. That's why he's available.

This was in the Free Press on 2/28

Also, Otis Polk, Consortium's 6-9 center, received great news...he passed the ACT and the offers from mid-majors have taken on a much more serious tone.

Does this mean he's qualified now?

I like these quotes big time. "23. Marc Larson, 6-9, senior, Mattawan. He is as versatile a post player as you will find. He has a turnaround jumpe
r that is nearly impossible to stop and if you can't handle that you surely can't do much against his hook shot. He has improved his mobility so he is capable of guarding smaller players. Signed with Bowling Green."

This sounds like the kind of guy we've been looking for and have never gotten. Wow, a 6'9 dude with a nearly impossible to stop turnaround jumper and he's got a hook shot too? I'm truley giddy. :D Now...........if he just stays on campus and stays out of trouble, stays out of DD's doghouse..excetera , excetera.

he passed the ACT quote]

Ummm, its been a few years since I took the test, but, this isn't a Pass/Fail kind of test. As far as I remember, you just get a number from 1 to 36. How exactly do you "pass?"
