I'm off to watch Antonio & LeBron!

Post by BGSU33 »

I'm headed off to the The Q to see the Cavaliers/Wizards Playoff game tonight. I scored some awesome midcourt seats off Ebay last night and I'm ready to watch a great game (I hope). I want Cleveland to win....gotta go with the home team...but I'll be pulling big time for 'Tone to have a great game himself.

Man, a heckuva game tonight! LeBron scores the game winning hoop with .9 remaining in a 121-120 overtime thriller, and Antonio had a nice game scoring 13 points and dishing out 7 assists. Daniels had some nice drives to the hoop tonight like he used to do back in Anderson Arena. I just wish he was playing for the Cavs and not against them. Oh well.

There was alot of talk on here last summer about the possibility of Daniels to the Cavs. I forget why that never happened. Did the Cavs not want him? Price tag too high? Did AD not want to play in Cleveland? Watching him play this series, you have to wonder if the Cavs brass are kicking themselves for signing Damon Jones instead.

I think Daniels' price took him out of what Cleveland could spend after re-signing Z and inking Hughes. The Cavaliers did not choose to sign Jones over Daniels. Daniels signed with the Wizards well before the Cavalies signed Jones. Jones was a fall back basically because no one else was available.

In retrospect, the Cavaliers might have been better off signing Daniels over Hughes.

This was honestly the first full game I have ever watched with AD playing (you have to remember, I'm still a youngin' though I have gradumatated...), and I have to say, the fact that he isn't a starter in that league is a crime of the worst class...

Helluva game you got to see, 33. I was sitting here at home wishing I was there. Great atmosphere and an even better finish. I do have to admit that deep down I was pulling for AD and the Wizards, simply because of the AD factor. Thinking about it later, I realized that my alma mater comes before my hometown. Doesn't bothere me at all, either! :-D

Antonio is a solid NBA player and I'm very happy to see him having already enjoyed a nice career and I hope he has several good years ahead of him yet. But his NBA career will likely always be overshadowed by college career in terms of performance, because in college he simply developed into a great basketball player. I wasn’t around for the days of Nate Thurmond or Howard Komives, but I do consider myself lucky to have been able to watch some of BG’s greatest players ever who are recent graduates such as Antonio Daniels, Anthony Stacey and Keith McLeod. This trio of players alone were outstanding for BG, and the MAC. It’s a crying shame that none of them had a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament and every time I think about how BG was snubbed in 1997, 2000 and 2002, I think of these players. We don’t have and haven’t had anyone close to the caliber of player of any of these three in several years, and for that matter, I don’t think there’s a player in the entire MAC right now that could touch this trio either. They were very, very good college players, and it’s no surprise that two of these three are in the NBA right now.

It is interesting that this is the first time you have seen A.D. play for a full game and you can make such a bold statement about him not being a starter. Washington starts a big lineup that creates matchup problems for their opponents and Daniels isn't in the starting lineup, but he has proven to be an integral part of a fairly young playoff team. There are a lot of good players in the NBA who don't start.

If you look beyond who is on the floor for the tip, you will see that Antonio is fourth on the team in minutes played. Maybe he isn't in the starting lineup, but he is getting starters minutes. Even more telling is that when Washington is in a close game, A.D. is usually on the floor when it is decided.
