2006-2007 Non-Conference Schedule

Any idea of who we are playing next season in the non-conference schedule? If I remember correctly, we’re supposed to host South Alabama and are scheduled to play at IPFW and at Wright State to name a few. I think the South Alabama games was arranged due to us playing in Mobile against Florida State from last season, and we were supposed to play at IPFW last year but there was a scheduling conflict and the game was supposed to have been moved to this season. Our game at Wright State would be the return game from the Bracket Buster. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us play some of the local suspects like Oakland or Detroit either. If so, we hosted Oakland this past year so we’d likely be on the road, and the last time we played Detroit (2004-05) we played on the road, so we could get a home date out of that possibly. And, as usual, I’m sure we’ll be hosting another non D-I school in the area once or twice. We could possibly have a tournament on tap again and maybe a game or two against a Big Ten team or comparable conference opponent as well. Please share any ideas you may know or have heard of.

Just refreshing this thread, wondering if anything has popped up yet? It won't be long before the schedules are officially released. I see a couple MAC schools have already announced their non-conference schedules for the upcoming season.

Just saw that the University of Northern Colorado will play at BG on Dec 19th. I would assume that means BG's full OOC schedule will be released soon.

This should keep the naysayers who constantly complain about our out of conference schedule quiet for a while! Who would have ever thought we could get a home game with UNC in December? You know the Heels will be ranked in the top five by mid December! ;-)

I wonder who Coach Brandon will be rooting for in that one?

Good catch, thanks for the info. Northern Colorado is a relative newcomer to D-I, and I'll take that any time over D-III or NAIA schools on the schedule. You can probably bet BG will be making a return trip out to Colorado in the next year or two then. If so, it would be cool to schedule another game while we are out that way, like at Colorado State, Colorado, Wyoming (not far away either) or even against the other Falcons - Air Force. It could be a nice way to play two games in one trip to that area.

Well, with the addition of UNC, this is what I think we have so far in the OOC schedule:

South Alabama
Northern Colorado
at IPFW
at Wright State

I'm 99% sure this game was scheduled when Shaun Vandiver (former BG assistant) was functioning in the same capacity there at Northern Colorado. Shaun has since moved on, but it's still a decent schedule filler.

5-24 in '05-'06 with 3 of the wins against Division i schools (EMU, Texas-Pan American, IPFW). They go to EMU two nights after playing in BG.

BG only won 7 games against D-I schools last year, and two of them were against EMU. Should make for a good game then.

I was talking to a friend who went to the MAC football media day and he said while he was there, a discussion about MAC basketball started up. In short, according to him, the MAC has allegedly told its member schools they can’t (or aren’t supposed to) schedule any non D-I schools on their schedules with the exception of when facing a host school in a tournament (ie, Alaska Fairbanks, Chaminade, etc.). Now, I don’t know if this is supposed to happen this season or next, but that’s what the “word on the street” was there according to him. This might start making for some interesting non-conference schedules in the MAC, and should also be an even bigger challenge for MAC teams getting home non-conference games now - especially with the MAC going to a 16-game league schedule instead of an 18-game slate. So maybe BG won’t have any non D-I schools on the schedule this year. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, as it shouldn’t be much longer until the schedules are released.

In MAC action, BG will play at Ohio on 1/11 and will host Ohio on 2/21. Ohio has already announced its complete 2006-07 schedule:
