I'm not sure if this is better classified as a basketball or hockey post. This guy writes a letter to the editor and suggests that BGSU build a 12-14K seat arena in order to draw concerts and a pro team to the area. Gimme a break.
It seems like he's one of these folks that thinks Toledo is bigger than it is.

I agree with his points on the Rossford project. They had an AHL team lined up and a summer concert venue until the "roadblocks" stepped in. The Rossford arena could have helped BG host tournaments with big name teams but wouldnt' have been a home venue for the Falcons.

It's not a completely crazy idea. I mean, an arena like that could be the best concert venue in our region of the state.

But -- putting the AHL in Bowling Green makes no sense at all. And those would be a lot of empty seats for Falcon basketball games.

Yeah, and there's a LOT of empty seats as it is with 1/3 the capacity.

NW Ohio is not and will not be an attractive destination for concert tours that need over 10,000 seats. The general line of thought is that promoters will look at the area as a nice stop over between Cleveland and Detroit. The problem with that assumption is two fold. If an act is already booked into Cleveland and Detroit, that's two shows within a two hour drive of Toledo with upwards of 43,000 seats. For all but a very small percentage of touring acts, that's an excess supply for the area already.

If an act is popular enough that they might actully create the demand needed to sell the extra 12-14,000 tickets a BG arena might create, they aren't going to want to extend the tour to add a concert in NW Ohio in a 14,000 (at best) arena. they're going to look to add a date in a bigger venue or a market that isn't potentially over derved

Just came across some slides from there. I had the absolutely BADDEST mirrored shades and a really geeky haircut to top them off. Sad to say that other than Winter, who didn't play, I can't remember another band. But I know I had a good time until the rains came...

I've heard stories about that show,but the people who were there don't seem to have a very good grip on the details. It's almost as if they were exposed to some sort of mind altering substance that day....

Didn't Montrose, featuring the Red Rocker Sammy Hagar, play that day? Or so I've heard. I was just a kid when that happened and had never been to BG.

If it was just the shades -maybe. I was amazingly trim in those days but the hair... Actually the slides are packed for moving. Got a couple of some bands-maybe Montrose? who knows. Nobody I recognize now. And I'm something of a rock historian. Its a little embarrasing that I can't remember. Not as embarassing as being an Asia fan, but still embarasssing.

freak, Montrose "Bad Motor Scooter, Rock Candy, Rock the Nation" did indeed play in the spring of 1975 Poe Ditch Music Festival. I was a much younger man and sitting on the field maybe 30 yards from the stage.

A young Sammy Hagar handled vocals for Ronnie Montrose's band. Their set, as I recall, was tremendous.

Also appearing were ZZ Top (yep, they were just getting going), The Outlaws, Richie Havens (Woodstock opening act as well as Poe Ditch), Pure Prarie League and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Mr. Bojangles, Circle be Unbroken). Two acts (I believe just two) never made it to the stage due to the thunderstorms that ended the concert and started some minor violence that did escalate to a fire at the track press box and some associated acts elsewhere.

Golden Earring and Johnny Winter did not appear. Both were big names. Johnny Winter had quite a following in the crowd with a number of blues rock fans in the stadium from Detroit and Cleveland. I still listen to his first two CD's today

Others who were there can correct any of my memory problems caused by the intervening 31 years and too many Johnny Winter guitar solos played at high volume.
