According to the Salt Lake Tribune, June 25 was the deadline for the Jazz to pick-up Keith's option on the last year of his current contract. That deadline came and went without a word from the Jazz on it. Tonight's draft could be important to Keith's future as a member of the Jazz.
Websites are reporting the Jazz having an interest in J.J. Redick from Duke. They think he could be a combo guard in the pros. That might not be good news for Keith? Derron Williams is the obvious starter at point guard for the Jazz now. The question is, do they want to brinng back Keith at $1.2M as a back-up? A lot of websistes have Redick going before the jazz pick at number 14. Should be interesting.

The deadline for them to exercise Keith's option on his $1.35M contract is Friday.
This was in today's Salt Lake Tribune:
Jazz note: The free-agent season opens Saturday, but O'Connor has one more decision to make before then. The option on Keith McLeod's $1.35 million contract must be exercised by Friday.
"It's up in the air," said O'Connor.
The third-year point guard averaged 5.6 points and 2.3 assists in 66 games last season. If the Jazz do not trigger the option, McLeod becomes an unrestricted free agent, though the Jazz could still re-sign him.

Yes, I just read that on their website. They had an article last week with the 25th as the deadline. Either way, the drafting of two guards last night probably doesn't bode well for Keith.

Milt Palaccio is a FA so I would expect McLeod back for one more year and likely one more year only. THe Jazz drafted Dee Brown in round two, and for any other team no big deal, a second round PG who probably won't make it. However, Brown played his college ball with Deron Williams and you know Jerry Sloan will have to love the teamwork that is already there. Deron has enough size to play the two in a pinch as well. I would expect him to be brought back....beyond that who knows.
On a side note, I have changed my name to MatelaAntwerp........ I am moving to Belgium to go to Grad School and read that Matela will be in the same city, expect reports from games.

Williams is th starter. Brown could be the back-up. Brewer can also play some point. That means the Jazz would pay Keith $1.35M to be a fourth point giuard option? I think that's stretch.
If being drafted in the second round doesn't mean anything, what does that mean for Keith...an undrafted free agent.

1.35 mill for a backup point is not much at all.

It is if you have 5 guards on your team you like better.

The Jazz exercised the option on Keith's contract. Terms were undisclosed, but Keith will be under contract with the Jazz for the '06-'07 season!
