All MAC All-TIME NBA team...

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

OK... this opens up the choices quite a bit... Nate Thurmond, Dan Roundfield, George Gervin, Ron Harper, Dan Majerle, Gary Trent...

Thoughts?

Could Bill Fitch be the coach or would it have to be an alum like Bob Hill?

The answers are more concrete with this, I think, because Thurmond and Gervin are hall of famers thus solidifying their spots. I think Harper has to get a solid nod as well as Majerle- Harper with rings and Majerle because he was a sniper from the outside. From there I think you have to give Roundfield, Mix, Trent, Sczerbiak, maybe even Boykins a look.

If it were an All-Time All-MAC team Komives gets a look, but since he wasn't a force in the pros he probably is on the bench on an All-NBA team.

I think you have to consider CMU's Jim McElroy and Ben Poquette. McElroy was a combo guard that averaged just under 10pts per game during a seven year career and Poquette had a 10 year run averaging 6pts and 5 rebs per game

Majerle was never a shooter until he got to the NBA. When he played at CMU, he played the 4. He was banger, much like Devin Davis and Paris McCurdy. As was as rugged (and borderline dirty) as they came.

Steve Mix belongs in this group.

So does Jimmy Darrow and Howard Komives.

If anyone says Ira Newble then your membership/posting privledges should be revoked.

The only reason he is still in the NBA is the 15 player roster and the nudie pictures he has of someone in Cleveland's front office.

Yeah but he plays such great lockdown defense  . Last season did he just show up to games to pick up his paycheck? I truly believe he didn't practice, work out, or even talk to anyone. He was like a ghost who just floated into the Q and got his check.

I've listed the top 30 or 40 players that I've personally seen play in the MAC, and Newble isn't on that list. In fact, he isn't even close. It's amazing that the Cavs can't find a better skillset for their roster than him. Carl Thomas, who played at EMU in the early 90's, had a stint in the NBA, but he wouldn't be on my list of top 40, either.

What ever happened to guys like Greg Stempen and Lewis Geter?

Stempin was playing in Spain last I heard. I think like Majrle he fell in love with the three instead of being the slasher type he showed he could be in college. He was the last cut on a couple NBA teams, I think, most recently Milwaukee. Great athleticism and intensity but not always good decisions.

Yes. Except that Triplett never demonstrated intensity or athleticism. :-D
