Not so great.....

Post by commonsense »

With another double digit loss, the Falcons string 8 losses in a row together by 10 or more points against D1 teams going back to last season. We hear all the reports and tough guy quotes in the paper about how we don't need this guy or that guy. However, we scored 54 points tonight. Its great to say year in and year out that we NOW have the guys who want to be hear, but it is the same result. If this team wins 10 games the season is a success.

IMO - this team wins 10 easy. (.500 ball or better?)

I rarely miss a game (radio). Smarco might be (will be) the best scorer in the MAC and Hamblet is a real upgrade from Floyd/Moon/Wright. It's early, but this is one of the best backcourts in the MAC. (Two JuCo guys... Hmmm...)

Hey, if I can't be optomistic now...

To win 10 games easy, they better start early with games like the 0-3 Arkansas State team. Look at the MAC schedule, we wont win more than 5 games there. Our first six are very tough, and a Dan Dakich team is rarely over 500 in the second half of the season. Looking at our players and coming games I am not sure we will be too much above 500 before conference play. We do not have one of the best back courts in the mac. Samarco can score by shooting alot of threes, but needs alot of shots to score. Hamblett has not done anything but score 8pts against lowly Ark st. I would be suprised if his numbers were any better than Wright or Floyd at the end of the season. We lose players and replace them with guys with less experience and most of the time talent and con ourselves into believing they are better.

If you listened to this game on the radio, our team showed a lot of character. I'm tired of all the negativity around here. This team was down 20 pts in the second half, and did they give up, did they fold, no. They had the lead cut to 2 pts with about 7 minutes to play. I still think this team finishes above .500 for the year.

Go Falcons!! See you at AA for Furman on Sunday.

Every team is going to have nights where they don't shoot the ball well. That's what happened last night. Coach Dakich said that they were getting the shots they wanted, they just weren't falling. Those nights are going to happen. And trust me, no one is more frustrated than the coaches and team. You know you should have won the game, you did everything that you wanted to, and still couldn't get it done. I've been there, and it sucks. I look for this team to come out in their next game and surprise the people on here that are already giving up on them. There aren't that many on here, but you know who you are. Give them a freaking chance. It was their first game against DI competition this year, Ark. St. has already had three of those. Let them get into the swing of things before you start to criticize. Both of our basketball teams should be ok this year, just give them time, that's all anyone can ask or do right now. Who cares about non conference games. Do you want to win them, yes, but I would rather them show improvement in every game, and be ready for the conference season. That's when it counts.

I'm looking forward to the Furman game. I continue to wait hopefully to see us show that we are making progress.

Houston though, I have one question--aren't there also teams where most of the players aren't good shooters?

From what I've read so far, this team will be much better than last year. How much better remains to be seen but I'm looking forward to seeing them in action.

I think it's WAY to early to predict if we will be over or under .500. I will say that from what I have heard the potential is there. But it has been for a few years now. This season, yet again, will come down to how well our coaching staff can keep it together from now until March. GO BG!!!!!

ASU beat us while attempting 23 fewer field goals and commiting 29 turnovers to our 14. Both teams had the same number of offensive rebounds, so we can attribute some of their big rebounding margin to themgetting a number of easy defensive boards thanks to our 26% shooting.

Whew, Samarco shot 5 of 23. I say that we call him Fartin Samarco until he starts shooting better.

DD only give significant minutes to 6 of his 11 scholarship players (12 if Sullivan dressed). This irritates the hell out of me.

What's going on with Sullivan?

O&B, yes there are plenty of teams that aren't good shooters. I haven't been able to see this team to say whether they are or aren't though. But if one of our best shooters is only 5-23, I'll chalk it up to a bad shooting night.

Houston--I hope it works out that we can shoot. That's what saved the Reimold/Almanson team.
