Attention Furman Bashers

Again, not trying to play the "they beat us so lets balloon them up" card but I noticed an interesting thing while watching the BG-TU football game.
Wofford is up by 3 on Cincinnati in at half time.
Now Wofford is in the same conference and same division of the Southern Conference as Furman. Furman, as pointed out in my other rant on SoCon hoops, is picked to finish second behind the Bobby Cremins led College of Charleston Cougars who return a bunch of talend. Wofford is picked for fifth in that very same division.
Also of note the UT-Chatt. Mocs, also of the SoCon, are leading the Ball State Cardinals in Muncie.
Now, I'm just sayin.

Wofford knocked off da Bearcats 91-90 while Tenn. Chattenooga beat Ball State in Muncie 70-55.
Tenn. Chatt was picked fourth in the opposite division from CofC, Furman, and Wofford.
I'm just sayin.

The SoCon is picking up all kinds of OOC points tonight!
Also, Jackson State, my new next favorite team with local guy Grant Maxey, beat Rutgers in the same Chicago tournament that saw Miami (OH) beat Scott VanderMeer and UIC.
One last thing, with a lot of time on my hands here lately, I noticed in my Street & Smith's that Maurice Acker, a former Ball State, MAC Frosh of the Year is now eligible at Marquette, however, after watching the Dukies game tonight where the Golden Eagles looked very impressive, Acker does not play and there's little to no mention of him in the preseason magazine. How deep is Marquette at guard that a former MAC FOY can't play?
In the write-up, Tom Crean mentions how important guard play is, I guess so!

He was freshman of the year just last season, so has to sit out this year.

BlueRibbon Basketball Yearbook which devotes at least 3/4 of a page of detail for every Divison 1 team had this to say about Furman and I'll paraphrase. Could be the year that Furman breaks out and wins the league. A new coach with a new system may be what the Paladins need. (Something we might want to consider) While the depth is only fair and lacks a dominant inside presence, there are many other weapons and there is no reason to think they will not win 18-19 games. BlueRibbon's grades for backcourt, frontcourt, depth, and intangibles were all higher for Furman than BG's except for depth.

Furman-70
Vandy- 62
Vandy is historically a very tough team in Nashville.
I'll be checking out Furman when they battle The Citadel in February. They are a damn good team.

From Acker's bio ...
"will sit out the 2006-07 season per NCAA transfer rules."
