History Lesson
If BG can win 18 games this year Dan will have won 18 games 2 of the last three years. That will be the 3rd time he has won 18 or more games 2 out of 3 years. How many times before Dan got here has that happened since 1963?????????????????? 1 time Wienert did it and some of you think he should go somewhere else? This happens 4 times in the 44 years and the man coaching your team does it 3 of them? Imagine if you gave him a budget, facility, or support what he could do. Coach L couldn't do that in his 11 years but he can take teams constantly to the post season, I guess he just became a better coach when he went to Gearge Mason. Great Job BG players and coaches you are 9-3 without much support!!!!

Not me, though. I called 10+ wins on November 16th (look it up).
This is a MUCH better team than last season - See U at The Q!

Come on Dakich haters. Your turn to respond with something negative. Well.....well.......well...................he can't keep his players!! I say sign Dakich to the extension right now and get it over with so this team can have the focus to move forward for the next couple of years with the good players we have. I'm glad someone has the sense to post something like this. Thank you rangermarkb.rangermarkb wrote:If BG can win 18 games this year Dan will have won 18 games 2 of the last three years. A weak OOC schedule doesn't earn Dakich merit for anything. He still has to prove that this team can win in the MAC, they were brutal in the conference last year and need to show a drastic turnaround there before he gets considered for anything. Still a long ways to go in the season.

Re: History Lesson
Just for those history buffs that don't go ga-ga over things like NFL rushing yards in a season while comparing much shorter in length seasons from the Jim Brown era to the Emmit Smith era I would question the validity of the statistics you have quoted. As I have said before I like Dakich and I am undecided on whether he should return. I wonder though if he has had more opportunity to win those 18 games and thus making it an unfair comparison because he is coaching teams which play more games in a season.rangermarkb wrote:If BG can win 18 games this year Dan will have won 18 games 2 of the last three years. Re: History Lesson
Why even mention Dakich not being able to keep players? That has no relevance to this years results. He did a better job this off season of keeping players, but it is WAY to early to let him off the hook and give an extension. I am not going to say one way or another right now if I want him back next year. IF he does well, I would go with a one year contract. One great season cannot erase the past few bad ones since the exedous and return from the hill county of WVU. Let him prove himself. I am against extensions that keep a coach under contract for any longer than 5 years in any sport. Time will tell, but it should be a fun ride!CrazyFan wrote:Come on Dakich haters. Oh God...we have a a REAL HAROLD ANDERSON HERE!!! Look at the stats : Dakich in 01-02: 24-9 02-03: 13-16 03-04:14-17 04-05: 18-11 and 9-21 for 05-06; this is a total record of 78-74 and 70% of college basketball teams would kill for this 5 year record like this. The fact is that Dan Dakich is a hell of a coach who's had a few down years but what he's done for BG basketball in his tenure DESERVES your respect and the team DESERVES your respect right now. I'm not singling you out; just everyone that seems to put their B.S. "fire Dakich" opinions forward (hammb), You guys can kiss my ass when this team wins 17 games (cause they will!) and pucker your lips real hard because I have a big ass!!It's the Journey... wrote:Why even mention Dakich not being able to keep players? Say what? 78-74 is a five year record that 70% of college basketball would kill for? Nobody kills for mediocrity...you might nudge someone for it or gently tap them on the shoulder for it, but I doubt seriously that anyone would be inspired enough by mediocrity to actually kill for it.
I will say this about our team so far...we're beating most of the teams that we should. I'm not sold on Dan for next year just yet...let's see if the team can compete agains thte upper end of the MAC before we start throwing contract extensions around willy-nilly.
BTW...please keep your ass fantaises to yourself...no one wants to read about the size of your ass, it's color, texture, metric displacement and recent political history. Nor do we wish to contemplate what it would look like witha mouth attached to it....

But everyone doesnt want to listen to the FIRE DAKICH B.S.!! There's A LOT of readers pissed off by the negative ,the glass is half empty bullshit (hammb), that people put forward here and I happen to be the guy standing up for it. You can bitch and complain all you guys want, but BG will win 17 games and DD will get his exstension and you guys can take that to the bank you pessamistic pieces of....I'll stop their. I get fired up over this stuff, especially when we try to ride out good people and coaches.Flipper wrote:Say what? 78-74 is a five year record that 70% of college basketball would kill for? Both sides have some good points so far, but I just wish we could have less measuring contests around here, and more reasoned, civil discourse.

All those words and yet...none of them mean anything. Why is DD a good coach? What has he accomplished here that warrants an extension? Are wins over Wright State and Marshall THAT meaningful? Dan's early years here were pretty good...the post Morgantown track record is not very inspiring. There are a number of BB coaches who would have been shown the door after a season like our 2005-06 campaign. Dan is mighty lucky to still be here. A 9-4 mark in OOC play against on of the easieist schedules in College basketball is by nio means enough to warrant another contract. let's seee how the rest of the year pans out first.CrazyFan wrote:But everyone doesnt want to listen to the FIRE DAKICH B.S.!! Just a quick question to flipper:
Would a win tonight to make them 10-3 had made a difference to you?
If wins, even against a lighter schedule, don't make a difference to you, then I'm not exactly sure why you post here or are a fan this season. Maybe the best thing for you to do would be to just wait out this season and see what happens. If wins do nothing for you, no matter who they are against, then there really is nothing this team can do for you this season. You can post all you want, but what you say isn't going to magically give us a stronger schedule or anything.

First of all, if I'm too pessimistic for you then fine. Come up with some decent reasoning and back your arguments up. If 17 wins qualifies as a good season, worthy of adulation to you, then perhaps I'm wasting my time. 17 wins should be a mediocre year, not the banner year you're looking forward to...especially with the schedule we're playing this season. As far as I'm concerned I don't even count games against Division II schools as actual wins, so in my mind we have a few less wins than the 9 everyone's bragging about.
Secondly, look at the above quotes. It's a Journey mentioned the exodus to Morgantown and back. I agree with him. In fact I was the largest Dakich supporter you'll ever meet...I was royally upset when he left. I found this website through WVU fans actually, at the time of his departure. When he returned to coach here I couldn't have been more thrilled. However, I also had classes with a few of the kids at that time, and he totally lost that team when he left and tried to return. Unfortunately that attitude has proliferated through the years to kids not wanting to play for him, kids transferring, and kids outright telling recruits not to come here. You cannot run a program that way.
I want to note that the records you indicated do not add up to something that 70% of college basketball strives for. I hope to god it's not what WE strive for. Mediocrity sucks in my opinion. I want championships, or at the very least to seriously contend for championships on a somewhat regular basis. We have not been a serious contender for a championship since his return from WVU. As long as the MAC recognizes the tourney champ as the true champ we haven't actually won a championship since 1968. It should be noted however, that you totally skirted the timeframe that Journey was discussing in your stats. Not only are the records you indicate not something to write home about, you padded them with the big year that we had BEFORE Dan went to WVU. Take away that year and his record in the years since the return is 54-65; throw in this season and you've got it at 63-69...hardly the stuff of legends.
Furthermore I don't believe I have ever, said that I wanted us to fire Dan Dakich. That's stupid, as its his last year on his contract. Let him finish out his final year, then we look to a new coach. If he has a huge year then a 1 year extension, at most, would be appropriate. I think you've totally got me all wrong about Dan Dakich. If you want to talk about what he did before he left for WVU, I think we'll agree, he did a great job here. I don't even think he's a bad basketball coach, quite the contrary, I think he's a decent to good coach. However, I also don't think he can win here anymore. He lost that team 5 years ago, and I have yet to see enough to believe he's regained control. And no, beating up a bunch of DII and bottom level DI schools is NOT enough to make me change my tune at this point.
I cannot speak for Flipper, but this game would've made a difference to me. Not a huge difference, but it would've been something. To beat a team with a winning record on their home floor would've been a nice accomplishment. Considering the quality of all the teams we've beaten this would've been a "signature" win up till this point in the season. I was hoping to log on here tonight, see we won, and post about how I was glad we got what was at this point in the season a big win. Unfortunately we didn't get it done. I see that the fouls were incredibly one sided, and I didn't see the game so I cannot really comment on that. I know we foul a lot more than most all basketball teams I've ever seen. I also know we seem to cry about lousy officiating on this site more than most, but since I didn't see it, I'll just say we lost, and leave it at that. We got dominated on the glass...again, and we'll never be a great team until we learn how to rebound.swinger5 wrote:Just a quick question to flipper:

In regards to the rest of your comments, I'm sorry but when you build a schedule like this you don't get graded on your wins vs losses. You get graded on the impression you build during the game, at least in my mind. A 3 point victory is not the same as a 20 point drubbing. Dan has, in my mind, created a no win schedule for himself this year. Yes, they're winning, but these are all games that they should win handily, and yet some of them are still coming down to buzzer beaters or tense moments. A good portion of our wins are against Division II schools, which as far as I'm concerned shouldn't even count in your record.
Wins aren't enough, but I've been very open to being impressed by this team...it just hasn't happened yet. Go out and play a complete game for a change and I'd love to give them some props. Unfortunately, they seem incapable of doing that at this point. They're still escaping with victories against this lousy competition, but what happens when they don't have a lead to nurse? You cannot continue to have stretches every game of 5-6 minutes without scoring. You cannot continue to get dominated on the glass. Good teams just don't let those things happen, yet we struggle with them even against inferior competition? I'm sorry, but I find it real hard to be impressed by buzzer beaters and hanging on for dear lifers against the type of teams we're playing.
