According to the Green Bay Gazette:

UWGB's coach Kowalczyk said that Dakich called him to say he was going to suspend Ryne:
Kowalczyk on Sunday said that after watching the film, he believes Hamblet delivered what he called a "blatant punch." Kowalczyk said he spoke with Bowling Green coach Dan Dakich, and Dakich told him he intends to suspend Hamblet.
"Dan called me, and he feels awful about it," Kowalczyk said. "I've got a lot of respect for Dan and for him to call me and tell me how bad he feels about it was good of him."

If true, good for Dan...without knowing the circumstances surrounding the incident it's tough to comment on it but it looked like Hamblet was telling the bench the kid had tripped (he was making gestures with his arms in the air and bending his body while lifting his legs...like he was trying to explain that they were tangled up and the kid fell).
If Hamblet just hauled off and smoked him.....well we'll cross that bridge if it's actually built.

This is the story of that game....
"Though none of the officials saw exactly what happened on the play, they called an intentional foul on Hamblet after Lawrence fell to the floor holding his head."
Wa wa wa? They did not see it but they called an intentional foul?

Does anybody have any idea what provoked Hamblet to throw the punch?
Did the refs themselves admit to not seeing exactly what happened?

I watched the game on the video feed, it look as if they were tangled up on the ground. I didn't see any punch. The announcers thought it was an elbow. If DD sits him out a game then it must of been something.

Right. If DD says he saw a punch, I think we should believe him.

I hope he didn't really throw a punch. He's a very important part of the team and has been playing very well and I'd hate to be without him, especially now with MAC play here. But if he did, then I guess he'll be out.
I was there

I did not see what happened. All I know is that BG showed heart not to give up and keep fighting. I can't say what I would have done if every time I play defense they call a foul or if I drive o the bucket its an offensive foul. However the same thing done on the other side of the ball and nothing was called. Thats how players get hurt. :shock:I didn't see the foul.

Excellent point...when you aren't calling a game evenly or consistently the players become frustrated and unfortunate things can happen.
That doesn't mean its ok for the players to punch each other though.

Any word on if we're going to be with or without Hamblet for Buffalo?

I thought those refs were horrible.
But if we already had the one ref for the Furman game. And he was horrible in that game....wouldn't it make sense for Dakich to say to his players....remember, he will call this etc.?

The things that's tough about it is that so many of the fouls were ticky tack fouls. It's a fine line, because you can remind your players that the ref will call those types of fouls, but at the same time you want them to be aggressive on defense.

This is not the first game where we have had trouble with fouls. The refs might have been bad, but we are often a contributing factor.

Has anyone heard anything new on this? I still don't know if Hamblet actually punched the guys since no one seems to have seen it happen. Personally, I hope he didn't, because we are going to need him for the Buffalo game.
These first 3 MAC games are going to be quite the test. Buffalo, OhioU, and Akron. Those are possibly the 3 best teams in the conference.
If he can't go, I'm confident that Sims can step up and provide some scoring, but Hamblet is very good on the defensive end for us and we will miss him in that aspect.

I don't think there's much of a question about what's going on personally. Dakich said he feels bad about what happened, which makes me think a punch or something similar was thrown, and Dakich said he will suspend him.
The only question is when, and how long the suspension will be.
