Yes -- THAT Jeffrey Jordan. This is an excerpt from an ESPN column:

Jeff, who is getting hard looks from mid-level Division I programs such as Loyola University, Davidson, Bowling Green, Illinois State and University of Illinois-Chicago, plays point and off guard. Marcus, considered the one with more long-term hoops potential, is a big guard/small forward. I don't think either of them made a shot. I'm not even sure they tried more than one or two.

Instead, they ran the floor. They defended. They showed a suitable-for-framing collection of spin moves, power drives and pinpoint passes on fast breaks and in half-court sets. They filled passing lanes. They had textbook spacing. They didn't chirp at officials. They didn't pose. They just played, and hard, too.

I know the Godfather of AZZ is a big Jordan fan, like myself. I've been watching some of his old games as part of the ultimate Jordan collection (my favorite Christmas gift from the wife).

If nothing else, signing his kid would bring a lot of attention to the program, and maybe a HUUUUUUGE potential donor.

I wonder just how much *sustained* attention would come to the program with a recruit like this?

Great points. i would think he would go somewhere closer to Chicago but we may have a link if Dakich has any relationship with Jordan from their playing days.

This is a situation where he may play sparingly but would bring with him a huge amount of attention as you said. I would recruit him just for that. It is good to just be mentioned here.

I agree, the signing would be big news. It would depend on how often MJ made the trip to watch his boy....I think he is helping to run the Bobcats now if I am not mistaken.

I don't think he does a whole heck of a lot with the Bobcats. It's just something for him to stay connected with the NBA. In any case, I think a guy like MJ could come to as many games as he wanted to, regardless of other commitments.

Outside of the top 10 recruits in the country, I don't think there a single HS senior out there that would bring more attention to the program.

Along a different, farfetched, and completely unsubstantiated line of thinking -- What if MJ does like Dakich based on whatever? Does this potential recruit help Dakich keep his job?

If he comes here, he's coming to play. He mentions in the article he doesn't want to go to UNC because he wants to play.

He's also a 3 star recruit. I don't envision many 3-stars riding the pine for long in the MAC. The scouting services are schizoid on him though, and BG isn't listed by Scout or Rivals as a potential school. Who knows when they were last updated though? One has Miami(FL) as very interested.


Also, he may want to get out of the Chicago area, to escape MJ's massive shadow a bit. BG would be far enough away to accomplish that, but close enough for his family.

Great point about the escape. MJ just divorced his mom too. I am not sure where both live. Dakich seems like the kind of coach that MJ would want his son to play for. BG does not seem like the kind of city though. I would expect him to want to go to a larger city. But like you said, maybe he just wants to play basketball and avoid all that. Micheal Jordans son going to BG would be huge for the entire University....Cameras would be here for Orientation, Graduation, ESPN stories etc etc. When Mike shows up so would the cameras.

I know, but Jordan has a few other things to remember. I am not sure if he remembers Dakich.

I happened to be in the Bahamas a few years back the same time Jordans celebrity golf tour was there. They had a roped off section and Jordan was inside sitting with Barkley gambling. Others in attendance, Elway, Ahmad Rashad, Jeter, Jorge Pasada, Gretzky. It was surreal.
