Intentional fouls

Surprised I haven't seen a comment on this from the Buffalo game. I know that complaining about the officiating is pointless because games are won and lost by players, but the intentional foul call on Samarco for grabbing a jersey was very weak. Then, the same thing happens to our player and it is not called an intentional foul. That had to be the most inconsistent officating call I have ever seen in my life. Plus, when Miller got hammered toward the end of the game on a breakaway and no intentional fouls was called. Seemed kind of ludicrous to me (I just wanted to say ludicrous, too).
Now, back to dreaming of Samarco in workout tights....

I totally agree. I thought the officiating stunk all game. They are so inconsistent with their calls. I don't care if they suck, as long as their consistent about it and call it both ways. But 75% of the bad calls went against us last night, with the worst being the intentional on Samarco. And then the same thing happens against us at the end of the game. It's just sad, but we won.

Agreed that the intentional foul call was terrible and I thought at the time that 4 point trip may have sunk us. However, I will not complain at all about the officiating. Reggie Witherspoon had a legit argument about a technical after Samarco's shot. I'm glad the officials called it the way they did, but I think that we got really lucky that a T was not called.

What would the T have been called for? Somehow I missed that part.

The team and a couple fans were on the court after Samarco made that 3. I personally think it was a makeup call after not calling a intentional on Buffalo after they grabbed Miller's jersey. If it's a intentional on one end, it's got to be the same on the other end.

I agree with you Crazy. It should have been intentional, but I wasn't going to complain too much given what had just transpired.
I thought the "makeup" call was on Otis' block shortly after the Samarco intentional foul. It looked like Otis got all ball up top, but got some body also. That was a play that most MAC officials would have called a foul.

You can tolerate officials making ticky tack calls like that if they're consistent. I don't recall seeing an intentional foul called on someone for grabbing a jersey during the middle stages of a game. I've seen that call made late in the game when a team is fouling to stop the clock, but I've never seen someone make that call at that point.
Perhaps they were trying to get control of the game...I hven't watched all of it yet (God Bless BCSN!...maybe I'll Youtube Samarco's winner tonight when I get home and dub it to DVD) was there a lot of extra curricular physical stuff going on?

Something that bothered me on that intentional foul on Samarco yesterday; I could have sworn, along with the gentlemen around me, that it was the white jersey being pulled on, not the blue one. Maybe I was seeing things, but it was still a bogus call.

This is a good point....we are lucky we got away with that one. We're also lucky that guy didn't catch the pass and make a layup while our guys were celebrating. I think a lot of people assumed the shot clock buzzer was the game buzzer.
OT: the last 2 seconds reminded me of the 1972 Olympics with Russia.
Notwithstanding that, I thought we played a tough game down two starters, and it was absolutely thrilling to be in AA for that one.

Grant & I were discussing it, and our thoughts were that this is a point of emphasis for officials this year. From our vantage point it looked like Samarco Clearly had lost position, and grabbed the guys jersey from behind, as he was taking the pass and was going to get an easy layup. The way we thought of it was that Martin was clearly not going for the ball, thus it was an intentional foul. Being a point of emphasis, that call should be made.
That being said, it was terrible that the call was not made the other way. The UB player clearly tugged on Miller's jersey. Since the ball was not even in play yet, he obviously was not making an effort to get to the ball, and this should've been called intentional as well. I believe the NBA actually has a rule that any foul before the inbounds pass is intentional, don't they? Either way, the call should've been made, especially since they made it on the other end.
MAC officiating is terrible, and always has been. All I ask is that they call the game fair. I know we commit a lot more fouls than most teams, and I expect that to show in the foul totals at the end of the game. Still, when I see two VERY similar fouls occur within a few minutes time I'd like the call to be made the same way both ways. The only possible distinction I can see was that the UB player that Martin fouled was receiving the inbounds pass and was definitely going for an easy deuce. In Miller's case the ball hadn't even been thrown in yet. I don't think that's a justifiable difference, but that's about the only thing I can think of to differentiate the two calls.

The only thing that I could think of why it wasn't called the second time was it was a different ref who blew the whistle. Still, rediculous.

That would be AWESOME for the out-of-towners (myself included). I would love to see the end of the game.

If you can get me the file, Flipper, I'll gladly host the video. It's a keeper... as was Todd Walker's call!

I didn't get to hear Todd's call. Can you get a copy of that also?
