Samarco and Hamblet

Are they helping or hurting?
In the 10 games played in the MAC Samarco in 7 of those 10 is shooting 28% from the field and 20% from 3pt range. In those same games he has 23 TO and only 8 assists. In the Miami game when he was pulled BG was down by 12 and only lost by 6.
Hamblet’s conference numbers are horrid. 30% from the field, 10% from 3 pt range, 27 assists and 32 TO. In the one game he sat the whole time we won.
Even in the Troy game in the last 1min 40. They turned the ball over 4 times, had a shot blocked and were 2 for 4 from the foul line in crunch time.
Don’t get me wrong they are good ball players but terrible team ball players.

Samarco has been in a terrible slump ever since MAC play started. It seems like I go several games without seeing him hit a three but he still shoots tons of them. When our best shooter/scorer can't even get his free throws to fall something is wrong.

The more I watch of Samarco the more I start to think he's the type of player that puts up big numbers while actually making the team worse. He shoots a ton (low %), he doesn't really pass, and he doesn't play defense. He would be good as a role player (i.e. your catch & shoot 3rd scorer), but he is not valuable if you're trying to make him your goto guy.
Hamblet, I have no idea what his role is. He seems like a tall PG/SG combo guard. I do like his defense and he's got some athleticism, but his shooting has been awful for the MAC season. I'm willing to give some pass as a lot of that might be his injury, but it's still discouraging. What's more discouraging is how many UNFORCED turnovers the guys commits. It has to be more than any PG I've ever seen. I mean travelling when not pressured, carrying the ball in the backcourt, etc. Just stupid stuff.
My take is that both of these guys are decent role players, but neither is somebody you build a team around. We badly need a true PG. I think if you ahd a true PG who could penetrate and kick to Samarco off the dribble Martin would like a much better player than he does in our current scheme.

There's a reason they both went to junior college.

I am in total agreement. Miller and Marshall are the two guys that right now I would try to build a team around. It’s too bad they both play pretty much the same position
As far as a true point guard IMO Guerin is the closest we have. He dribbles and drives with both hands and dishes the ball very well. In MAC play he has 22 assists with only 6 TO’s he shooting 81% from the field, 83% 3pt, 75% FT 18 RB, 6 steals in 9 games. So he is not going to shoot BG out of a game or turn the ball over in crucial times. The problem with Guerin is the motion offence. He brings the ball up gives it to whomever and never sees’s it again. Plus, he was doing well unit DD started this everyone plays 10 min crap.

Hamblet gets assists and rebounds and plays great perimeter D. He's not a scorer now, never was, and wasn't advertised as such. He's not a true PG but handles the position, generally, decently. His shooting numbers are more horrid than they should be, but I'm glad to have him. On our 24-7 team he would've been in the rotation on the wing coming off of the bench.
Samarco is a jump shooter and nothing more. His upper body strength and anticipation get him good rpg stats for a guard. The problem is, when a shooter hasn't been making his shots for quite a while, adjustments are needed. I've always thought that Samarco's minutes and shot attempts were to high. Now it's painfully obvious.

I beleive I was the one that said Samarco should not be a leading scorer on a good team while you guys were making him out to be on the level of McLeod and much better than Reimold and Almanson. Back then you guys killed me for my predictions and now you are seeing I was right all along. Just like I said earlier there is a leading scorer om every team in the country just as Humphries from YSU is (as I made this comparison earlier)

W H A M ! ! ! ! !
Heh? Who are you guys? I never said any of that crap. hammb, ziggy, nor Flipper said any of that. Commonsense didn't, Falcon30 didn't, FalconFreak didn't, and RUIT didn't. Globetrotter, UTRIPLETTS, brewer, fredthefalcon, and DD himself all went without saying it. (Fact check me, I might be wrong on one of these.) One person suggested it, but he admited he wasn't exactly a BG hoops guru.
Don't post when you're drunk.

Hamblet had 24 points, 6 boards, 2 assists (to 2 TOs), 3 steals, and 2 blocks last night.

Nope that was me. He is right. ANd I was the only one and everyone, correctly, said I was wrong. I said that Samarco was at the Ahlmanson and Reimold level and that if he continues his progress he could get into the MAC player of the year level. I was completely wrong and clearly focused squarely on points and nothing else. Thats what I get for being able to watch two or three games a year and trying to make some sort of prediction off of box scores (and hope). It was me, And it was before the first game of the year. So I am actually blushing a little that someone would remember that. HammB specifically said I was wrong to say Samarco was that good, I am sure there were others, but I know for sure HammB did it and he pointed out exactly what has been true. His game lacks depth. He can score, and that may be it.

So it was you who was the "you guys". I remember getting on you about that too. Don't feel bad. I too succumb to over optimism and wishful thinking every fall. It's difficult to be a fan and not do so.

Not to mention Jordan's son who will, when all is said and done, make everyone forget his father!
