Who would expect anything else from this conferences INCOMPETENT administration? Even if they did "act within their discretion", it is NOT the officials job to determine the outcome of a game. Everyone knows they are BAD, other sports are even WORSE, and the conference does NOTHING about it, other than pat them on the butt and say "thata boy".

I wonder how the football schedule is doing? Nice TV schedule too!

It is time for Rick Chryst and the rest of his cronies to sell insurance (maybe hamburgers)!

Beaurocracy at its best. Everybody has been seen to have done the right thing. Nobody loses their job, which keeps employment figures bouyant, and now there is a tidy file with a beginning and an end, neatly pinned and efficiently archived.

All in all, a good day at the office - something has been achieved today. Tomorrow, there will be that looming issue about football schedules, which isn't a real problem. Its one of those things that will sort itself out, because whatever happens, everyone in 1A will play 12 games come Sept - its what the rules say. And anyhow, who wants to start something on a Friday that might leave loose ends over the weekend?

In the words of the most high ranking and long lived of civil servants, "I couldn't POSSIBLY comment."

"MAC policies prohibit institutional personnel from making public comments unduly critical of any game officials or other administrative personnel."

In what way did Dan violate this rule?

We've added the formal statement from BG's AD and Dakich's public apology.

Blah, blah, blah.

Yes, they acted "within their authority in the administration of basketball rules". I still don't think they were right. Talk about reinforcing bad behavior...

And why did it take them two days to come up with such a bland POS statement with no responsibility at all directed toward the officials. Just because making a call is "within their authority" doesn't make it the right call.

Screw this crap. Take it out on Morehead State.

Regardless as to the issues, I thought all along that any coach in any sport that criticizes officials publically let alone uses profanity is likely to get a reprimand and in a lot of cases a suspension. Whether the coach is right or wrong that's what happens. But I do think the writing is on the wall for DD. AD Christopher's statement is strong and to me indicates the administration's unhappiness with the situation.

Some interesting parallels to his mentor's situation at Indy. If the administration wanted him gone anyway this bolsters their case, although at Indy there was a loooong history of ignored misbehavior prior to the final paroxysm of boorishness that put Knight down. I never really heard any complaints about Dakich in that regard other than his mouth(and I have no personal knowledge about that-most of it I've heard here). Nevertheless, right or wrong in this situation he certainly hurt himself with his postgame comments.

No question that dropping an f-bomb or 12 in the direction of the officiating crew warrants a reprimand. It's the "meh, the refs are allowed to do that if they want to" tone that makes me laugh. Or cry.

Right. I understand that he had to be reprimanded. But who holds the officials accountable for poor use of judgment, even when they are within their rights?

Christopher's statement was strictly proforma.

I think Chryst and Christopher are joined at the hip and I question how competent either is at this point.

Here' a link for a brief story on ESPN. It doesn't really say a lot about what happened during the game, more just about cracking down on DD.
